Hi Friend,
It's here. We knew it was going to happen. After 17 thrill-packed years, superhero Wolverine has reached the end of the road. That's right - actor Hugh Jackman has decided to call it a day and hang up his Adamantium claws.
The film fans amongst you will have heard Marvel's movie 'Logan' will be Jackman's final outing in the X-Men role he made famous. It's hard to believe everyone's favourite mutant is no more. Yet that's what has happened: Jackman - in true, swashbuckling Hollywood style - went out fighting while leaving his die-hard fans wanting more.
The Aussie star has left one helluva legacy. But what was his training secret? How did Jackman keep returning for the punishing workouts and super-strict bodybuilding diets?
We can find the REAL secret to his success in another (unlikely) movie star.
Who am I talking about?
Woody Allen.
Huh? Have I gone crazy? Nope. Not at all. And I'll explain why...
You see, the REAL secret to success in any endeavour - and this includes the tough training required for an action movie role - is consistency. Simply "showing up", as Allen once famously quipped, accounts for 80 percent of all success.
When quizzed in an interview about his success, Woody Allen said, "It's the steadiness of it that counts. Getting to the typewriter every day is what makes productivity."
Being productive in the gym is no different. It doesn't matter how cool your workouts are or what fancy diet you're following, if you fail to show up.
Showing up is what distinguishes the winners from the losers. Showing up is the difference between measurable gains or aimlessly spinning your wheels.
Hugh Jackman knew this every time he stepped into the gym. The Wolverine star grasped the importance of showing up during each punishing set and carefully monitored mealtime.
That is why I'll be saluting the Hollywood star when I see 'Logan' at the cinema this week. Because showing up, even during those challenging times when you don't want to, is what makes a true training superhero.
Until next time,
Squat for Glory!
