Imagine you're looking for a new car to get you across town. Money is no object, so you can have the vehicle of your dreams.
So what are you going to choose?
With so many tempting options in the shiny car showroom, you may find it difficult to make a decision. But here's the deal… however you dice it, you need to pick something.
So, let's say you select a Ferrari as your new car, and it gets you across town in the blink of an eye. Wow! It's so fast. Then one day, you simply decide to leave your new motor in the garage and take your bicycle instead.
Feeling the change of pace will do you good, you enjoy your journey, and still get to take your trip across town. But what does any of this have to do with your weight training?
Well, your training is simply a vehicle to get you across town. You can drive a Ferrari or a Toyota. You can take the bus or bicycle. But however you look at it, you have to get across town.
And here's another thing… how fast you choose to get across town is entirely up to you. This is why you need to test drive your training, and if you are unlucky and get a rattletrap clunker, ditch the car and get a new one.
Training Traffic Jam
You see, a lot of folks get trapped into doing the same things the same way. Scared of change, they continue to meekly go through the motions until they end up in a training traffic jam.
We've all done it. We've all been guilty of spinning our wheels from time to time. But the cool part is, you can just as easily alter your training in the same way you can drive another car. Or hop on a bus. Or ride your bicycle.
All that matters, is that you get across town.
Sometimes, stamping your foot on the accelerator and flooring that mother is the right thing to do. It's a fantastic feeling. Then, on other occasions, you will want - and need - to slow down and ease back on the gas.
So be brave. Try something new. And remember, any speed limit is only in your head.
