Hi Friend,
Ever see the 80s film "Top Gun"? In it, Tom Cruise plays "Maverick" - an individualistic, aeronautics high-flyer who bravely marches to the beat of his own drum.
I mention the movie, because individualism is important. Want to see this characteristic in action? Then look no further than the Air Force where the individualistic temperament is best typified by its flyers.
Because these flyers resist regimentation, they are also the most outspoken against systemised physical training.
When the astronaut programme was being developed, there were several attempts by Air Force doctors and physical fitness experts to devise a rigid physical training programme for the spacemen. (These astronauts were test pilots, the most fiercely independent of all flyers.)
How did the pilots react?
They flatly refused to be regimented. Their argument was that each could exercise on his own and prepare himself in his own way for the expected challenges of space flight.
It is an excellent argument - and it applies equally well to you. Why? Because no-one knows your body better than you.
This is why regimented, parade-ground uniformity is unnecessary (and harmful). Instead, each individual should adjust each training parameter to meet their own requirements… they move as they desire, according to their own design.
Such actions help build the bedrock of effective fitness exercise. And the surest (and safest) way to achieve your exercise targets, is to do it on your own terms. Fit your workouts into your daily pattern. Become an individualistic "Maverick" and march bravely to the beat of your own drum.
