From the Executive Director's Corner
As the school year comes to a close and summer break approaches, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude for your dedication and hard work in promoting financial education with your learners. The AFSA Education Foundation is committed to supporting educators with high-quality personal finance resources, and we greatly appreciate your efforts.

We have had a busy year so far and have some important announcements to highlight – including multiple opportunities to get free MoneySKILL gear!

Tell us what you think:
Every year, we collect feedback from instructors about the MoneySKILL program to better understand what is working well and where we can improve. Your input plays a crucial role in helping us enhance MoneySKILL and our corresponding resources so we can better meet your teaching needs. We would like to invite you to take just a few minutes to complete our 2023 MoneySKILL Instructor Satisfaction Survey here. For those who complete the survey by Thursday, June 15, you will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of three MoneySKILL-branded 30 oz YETI travel mugs!

MoneySKILL is getting an update:
The AFSA Education Foundation revises the MoneySKILL curriculum as needed but recently it concluded a comprehensive review and update of all 37 modules in order to maintain the relevance and accuracy of the content. As a part of this effort, the foundation worked closely with an external organization that partners with community, nonprofit, and private organizations across the U.S.

We are excited to continue enhancing and improving MoneySKILL. Please note that these updates will be pushed live to all MoneySKILL classes over the weekend of July 1, 2023. The module topic areas, learning objectives, and program format will not change significantly, and we do not expect any disruption in access.

Share your students' MoneySKILL success stories and get rewarded!
The AFSA Education Foundation is seeking student testimonials that highlight the positive impact of the MoneySKILL program. If any of your students are interested in sharing their experience, please email info@moneyskill.org with at least 50 words describing how MoneySKILL has helped grow their financial knowledge, improve their financial decision-making, and garner attention from parents/family members, other teachers, coaches, administrators, etc. Submissions on behalf of students should not include their name or any other identifying information. Sharing these insights will help the AFSA Education Foundation continue to inspire fellow educators and encourage them to incorporate MoneySKILL into their classrooms and beyond. As a bonus, the first 3 educators who submit a student testimonial will receive a FREE MoneySKILL-branded 30 oz YETI travel mug.

Check out our updated MoneySKILL Impact Evaluation results:
The AFSA Education Foundation recently worked with Dr. Carly Urban, Professor of Economics at Montana State University, to conduct an evaluation of the impact of the MoneySKILL curriculum. Specifically, the evaluation sought to understand how the effectiveness of MoneySKILL persisted through the pandemic as well as investigate for whom the curriculum is most effective.

The results of the evaluation highlight that MoneySKILL students’ financial knowledge gains remained consistent through the pandemic, and their short-run financial behaviors continued to improve. Furthermore, the short-run gains were largest among those from areas with higher poverty, suggesting MoneySKILL has a higher return for students from more vulnerable households. For more detail, the full evaluation report can be found here and an infographic with key outcomes can be found here.

Thank you again for all you do for your students. Please keep reading for more MoneySKILL tips and resources!

Best wishes,

Rhonda Ashburn

Ask MoneySKILL!
Are there any supplemental resources available to support me in teaching specific MoneySKILL modules?

Yes. All MoneySKILL instructors have access to a MoneySKILL Activities Learning Guide in the “Resources” section of their dashboard. This guide includes over 300 free, vetted, digital personal finance activities, worksheets, calculators and more that are aligned to each MoneySKILL module.
Is MoneySKILL appropriate for middle school students?

Yes. We have identified 12 modules that are easily adaptable for a middle school-aged audience. When setting up a new MoneySKILL course, select “Middle School/Junior High” as the grade level and the 12 modules will be selected for you by default.
Can I track how much time my students are spending on each module?

Yes. The “Grade Book” section of your class will display the total amount of time a student spends completing a MoneySKILL class. Additionally, downloading a specific student’s grades (in the “Students” section) will allow you to see the time they spent on each module.

Are you using the Reality Check simulation?  Did you know MoneySKILL includes a free Reality Check simulation for students? By default, all MoneySKILL classes include this free interactive activity that gives students a chance to map out the financial requirements of certain lifestyles. Instructors can check it out in the “Preview Curriculum” section of their MoneySKILL dashboard.
