I think I can speak for everyone when I say “it’s been a minute”. Our lives have drastically changed since March of 2020, causing a lot of us to uproot and adapt to a new flow in unchartered territory. With our focus on mental health this month, I’d like to address a few things that may help to offer stability as we collectively push onward through the ebb and flow of change.
As our patients know, we call ourselves Oaktree because the oak tree has strong roots that dig deep. With strong, deep roots the Oak is resiliant and able to endure harsh weather. This is exactly what is happening right now!
Our own root systems are being tested. It is time to nurture them so they can stay healthy and adapt. One way that works for myself is to be in nature. Giving myself permission to surrender to the quiet by listening to the elements and what the earth has to say.
Whether it’s taking a walk in the Ottawa Greenbelt to feed the chickadees, or being in your backyard, giving yourself the opportunity to “be” without distraction can be extremely healing to the body, mind, heart and soul.
We are feeling everything at this time. Doubt, anger, guilt, frustration, sadness, loneliness, confusion… the list goes on. And that’s okay! We must approach these times with extreme compassion both for ourselves and each other. It doesn’t have to be heavy all the time. Do things to keep energy high and light (it’s crucial!). Watch a comedy show, go tobaganning, or just have a real conversation with a friend. Doing things that you enjoy within the new societal limitations will make this transition go by more smoothly. Always remember that you are a being of grace, beauty and love.
Whether you are taking COVID in stride or if you are finding it hard please come talk to us! We believe in pursuing health holistically! The nervous system is the master system and it’s important to be aware of all of our stressors so that we can give our bodies the opportunity to heal and grow naturally. We are here for you! Through thick and thin. It is our privilege to offer you support, guidance, healing and love.
