National Volunteers Week and Volunteers Award

It's the National Volunteers Week 1st - 7th June and what better way to celebrate it than being invited to Buckingham Palace to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service...

That's exactly what Julia, our Volunteer Coordinator and Victoria, one of our volunteers did last Thursday. Yes, you heard it correctly! The Palace has confirmed that the Nottingham Women’s Centre Volunteers are amongst this year's recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The Award represents a tremendous achievement for our organisation. Classed as the MBE for volunteer groups, it is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK.

We are so very proud to have been recognised and would like to say thank you to all NWC volunteers past and present.

We’re featuring some of our current team on the Centre’s Facebook page this month so do have a look to read about the wide range of roles they undertake and why they volunteer here.

Starting from September, we're hoping to share with you some book reviews. If you're interested in writing a review then please do get in touch!
We have a group of very enthusiastic volunteer librarians who will be taking over the Library Facebook page, so please make sure to like it if you want to be up to date with monthly themes, reviews and other news.

Sticky Wall is here
If you are visiting Nottingham Women's Centre, make sure to leave us your feedback using the new "sticky board" - What does feminism mean to you? What do you love about the centre? Any ideas for improvement? We would love to hear from you.

For those of you who are not able to visit us in the near future, we've got an online sticky wall too - simply head to Pin-up and share your comments with us by adding a pin!
Are you a woman working in construction?
To support women in a particularly male-dominated trade and to avoid having to chaperone men around our facilities, we prefer employing women to do our maintenance and construction work at the Centre. If you know the names or contact details of any women who service commercial properties, please contact reception on 0115 941 1475 or email
