Clifton Joullian RN, The Nurse Farmer

Meet Clifton Joullian, a registered nurse from Alabama with over 20 passionate years of home-health experience who turned his love of gardening into a genuine, heartwarming platform for older adults managing chronic health conditions.

After developing arthritis, tendinitis, and other health challenges of his own, Clifton applied his nursing background to create adaptive, low-impact gardening techniques, proving that health struggles don't have to mean giving up the hobbies you love.

And with September's cooler temperatures and warm soil making it one of the best months to plant, it's the perfect time to put his tips to use!

A Note From Nena

Hi Nurses,

I'll be honest, September always sneaks up on me a little differently than the rest of the year. Not because it's slow exactly, but because it's the month I finally stop reacting and start choosing.

Maybe that's you too right now. Not stuck, just standing at a fork, deciding which direction actually deserves your energy for the next few months.

Here's what I keep coming back to: you don't build a business by clearing your whole plate. You build it by picking the one thing that's been nagging at you, the outdated pricing page, the client you owe a follow-up, the offer that's almost right but not quite, and finishing it.

That's it. That's the whole move.

And if September 2027 isn't on your calendar yet for NNBA 2026 in Virginia Beach, now's a good time to add it. If you're one of the many of you who reached out this summer asking "What's next?", this is me telling you: we're already building it!

Whatever you finish this month, big or small, it counts. Keep going.

With gratitude,

Nena

Ask for the Testimonial Before You Need It

Most nurse entrepreneurs wait until they're chasing new clients to ask for testimonials. By then, it may feel awkward and forced.

Your challenge is to build the habit of asking right after a client has their best result or biggest "aha" moment, when the gratitude is fresh.

Here's how to make it easy:

  • Ask within 48 hours of a win, session, or milestone

  • Keep the ask specific: "What changed for you because of this?" instead of "Any feedback?"

  • Request permission to use their name, initials, photo, or full quote

  • Keep a running folder so you're never scrambling while promoting

A steady stream of testimonials builds trust before you ever need to sell. Whether it's a free call, a quick live video, or a webinar, collecting feedback is worth building into your routine, not just saving for big launches.
