Dear Nurses,

A question that I am often asked is "What does it take for me to be a successful business owner?" The answer is the same for nurses as it is for anyone desiring a successful business. It comes down to doing 3 key things:

1) Find and produce a product or service people want. You will confirm people want your product by conducting market analysis and feasibility tests. For example you could use focus groups or beta testing. This will ensure your product, service, or program is something people want. In other words, don’t be a solution in search of a problem. 2) Market and sell the product or service. This will require mastering your message and using the right methods and media to sell enough of your product. 3) Manage, administer, and account for your income and expenses. You must know your numbers to effectively manage your income and expenditures. Don’t prioritize what is exciting over what is profitable. All business skills are learnable; you can learn everything you need to know to build a successful business.

The Nurses Business Training Center includes the information above and so much more in modules, lessons, toolkits, and plenty of marketing and networking options. The Balance Money

How often have you considered entrepreneurship as a career and then dumped it?

How often have you slid off saying NOT FOR ME in a discussion on entrepreneurship?

Many of us, despite a secret desire to pursue this line of career, either sit on the fence or shy away because of the ’n’ number of myths and half-told stories of raging success or dismal failure, more of the latter than the former — that nips the dream in the bud.

Today we will attempt to debunk myths about entrepreneurship and give some tips on how you can work at designing your success.

Let’s start with addressing the top myths:

Myth 1-Entrepreneurship is Only for the Wealthy.

Entrepreneurship transcends wealth, fueled by creativity, innovation, and determination. Success doesn’t solely depend on financial resources; great ideas, market understanding, resilience, and relentless pursuit play pivotal roles.

E-commerce is the process of selling goods and services online. Customers come to the website or online marketplace and purchase products using electronic payments. Upon receiving the money, the merchant ships the goods or provides the service.

E-commerce has been around since the early 1990s when Amazon just sold books. Today, it’s a multibillion-dollar industry. According to Statista, the U.S. e-commerce industry is expected to eclipse $1 trillion in value in 2024, making it a major economic staple for the national economy.

How does e-commerce work?

E-commerce works on the same principles as a physical store. Customers come into your e-commerce store, browse products and make a purchase. The big difference is they don’t have to get off their couch to do so, and your customer base isn’t limited to a specific geographic area or region.

Whether you’re selling running shoes or home supplies, you go through the same process when operating an e-commerce website:

1)Accept the order. The customer places an order on your website or e-commerce platform.

A P&L statement, also known as an “income statement,” is a financial statement that details income and expenses over a specific period. This report helps you understand what’s behind a company’s profitability by categorizing revenues and expenses. For example, you can see if a business spends more than it earns on production, and you can view operating profits separately from financing costs and taxes.

As you move through income and expenses step by step, the story behind profitability (or losses) unfolds. The income statement starts with revenue and moves on to expenses that eventually result in the organization’s profit or loss.

Note: Some P&L statements include a company’s earnings per share (EPS).

If any parts or materials are required, those costs typically go under cost of goods sold (COGS). The result is gross profit. Next, the statement subtracts any expenses necessary to run the business, such as payroll, utilities, maintenance costs, and other expenses. The result is operating profit. At this stage, you can tell how effective the company is at providing goods or services at a profit.
