Mergers and Acquisitions have a profound effect on hospitals and the healthcare workforce. Since nurses comprise the hospital’s largest healthcare profession and expense, nurses feel these effects the most. The article Why Nurses Need a Plan B: Understanding Mergers & Acquisitions Effect allows you to prepare for your own financial security and career viability.

The new year is one of the best times to set and achieve goals, despite all the jokes made about it. This article is not a list of 100 goals to set for 2024, rather it is a list of 100 Goal Ideas for 2024 / New Year Goal Ideas. What I really enjoyed was how the author divided the goal ideas into 10 categories from Career and Professional Development Goals to Hobbies & Creativity Goals. I recommend what she advises, “take what resonates with you, leave the rest, and make this a year to remember”!

Why Nurses Need a Plan B: Understanding Mergers and Acquisitions Effects

Updated December 27, 2023

Nurses, here is recent news on merger and acquisition activity with dozens of deals involving hospitals, drug developers and medical device manufacturers. By the end of the third quarter of 2023, there were 53 hospital mergers or acquisitions announced, a number which matched the total of deals in all of 2021 and 2022, according to data from Kaufman Hall and Becker’s Hospital Review. It is estimated that over a third of the transactions were due to financial distress. Simultaneous with the announcements were mentions of an expected reduction in force, meaning job loss in the workforce. The merging of multi-hospital systems also results in the elimination of duplicated positions.

The move to corporatizing healthcare is resulting in many hospitals becoming lostpitals. The number of rural and community hospital closings is alarming as well; however, I’ll be concentrating on M&As.

100 Goal Ideas for 2024 | New Years Goal Ideas

Out of Habit

If you want to change your life in 2024, these 100 goal ideas for the new year are here to help.

There’s a lot of hype (and psychology) around goal-setting for the new year, but despite the jokes and half-hearted New Years resolutions, transition periods (like a new year) are the best times to set and achieve successful goals.

I’m a big yearly goal setter, and all throughout the year I think about ways I want to challenge myself or grow in the following one – but every December, like clockwork, it’s like all those good ideas disappear from my brain and I can’t remember where to start.

So this year, it finally occurred to me: the goal ideas list.

This is a list of 100 goal ideas for the new year on how to change your life in 2024. (To be clear, I don’t suggest setting 100 goals for 2024, I definitely won’t be doing that.)

The NNBA is the #1 trusted resource of helping nurses succeed in business. We have been in the business of educating and empowering nurses through entrepreneurial models for the past 38 years. Over the years, we've had thousands of testimonies on the transformative quality of being a member and attending our annual educational conference on nurse entrepreneurship.
