Dear Nurses,

May is such a busy month, right? Many NNBA members are traveling and speaking extensively across the country during National Nurses Month. Many nursing business owners that offer services, programs and products extend themselves for nurses especially during this time. May highlights the invaluable contributions nurses provide and we know for over 21 years nurses have been voted as the most trusted profession by the Gallup poll. We also know that post-pandemic a high percentage of nurses are looking to leave their work in hospital settings due to burnout and frustration with administrators lack of response and support to short staffing issues. On top of that, the aging nurse workforce (median age 52) is a factor in nurses leaving the hospital setting with retirements outpacing new nurses coming into the field.

Entrepreneurial models leverage the treasure trove of nurse’s knowledge and experience and entrepreneurship holds unlimited possibility. Here's what nurse entrepreneurs like:
  • money (uncapped financial upside potential)
  • creative control
  • location freedom
  • time freedom
  • deep affinity for and/or a passionate interest
  • autonomy being your own boss
Typical nursing education does not incorporate business knowledge - the NNBA bridges that gap. Nurses have trusted the NNBA to learn how to start, grow, and keep your nursing business successful for over 37 years. Review the benefits of membership here, (one of which is $100 savings off the conference): https://nursesbusiness.com/product/nurse-membership/.

The healthcare landscape shifts continually, and new challenges and opportunities will exist due to those shifts. Growing Hospital at Home Services Indicate Healthcare Transformation demonstrates the truism, "follow the money."  At home hospital care is a thing, and hospital buildings may become the malls of yesteryear. Nurse entrepreneurs that have been in the home providing home health services could benefit by pitching hospitals as an outsourced vendor.

Words of encouragement have an immense power to put our entrepreneurial journey into perspective. They help remind us that every successful entrepreneur faces hurdles, and that it's their ability to overcome those hurdles that makes them successful. 9 Questions I Ask to Evaluate a New Business Idea Before Jumping In

Entrepreneur Handbook
One way to tell a not-yet-entrepreneurially-astute newbie aspiring founder from a seasoned veteran isn’t in how much they make with their ventures, but rather with how they assess and decide on which new ideas to pursue. Believe it or not, judging a startup’s success or potential by the numbers alone - even if those numbers are actual profit - is an oversimplified, and highly incomplete strategy.

In fact, the most important questions that help me pursue or abandon the many new startup ideas and opportunities that come my way have little to do with sales, CAC, LTV, EBITDA, or any other financial metric. Instead, they consist of the 9 below questions that just may stop you in your entrepreneurial tracks and help reroute your journey to success.

Stickiness

I can’t tell you how many entrepreneurs pitch me “great” ideas that all hinge on a one-time purchase. While I’m not suggesting that a patent is worthless or that it’s impossible to get rich or successful off a one-hit-wonder one-time-purchase product or service, it also isn’t preferable or the easiest path (unless you’re charging ultra-premium prices).
Growing Hospital at Home Services Indicate Healthcare Transformation

MHealth Intellegence
Provided by PA Consulting Group, new data indicates that not only do healthcare providers have the necessary tools to transition to hospital-at-home services, but they also believe these services will save patients time and money.

Despite their existence prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual care services grew dramatically during the public health emergency. Although many intended for these tools to be a temporary substitute for in-person care, they provided new levels of patient support and care access.

According to the FAIR Health Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker, telehealth use increased nationally and in all US Census regions in January. Although there were variations in telehealth type and treated specialties, this data highlights the ongoing high usage of virtual care.

PA Consulting's Healthier at Home report shows a similar trend for hospital-at-home services. For the report, consultants surveyed 550 leaders across MedTech, pharma, and private and public healthcare.
