Subject: NNBA News ~ 4 Innovation Personalities ~ Home Based Case Management Opportunity

President's Corner
November 15, 2018
Dear Nurses,

We are honored and humbled by the wonderful comments made by so many of the #NNBA2018 attendees; thank you. Our annual conference is truly a team effort and the biggest part of that team is you! Nurses are hungrier than ever for knowledge that will allow them to benefit from their years of experience and valuable subject matter expertise. A good deal of our conference is spent sharing with nurses how they can monetize that experience. With that in mind, we are announcing our Call for Speakers #NNBA2019 https://nnbanow.com/call-for-speakers-2019/ Please note that there is a short window on this call with the deadline being December 31, 2018 and only NNBA members proposals will be considered.

In an upcoming newsletter we will be announcing the opportunity to participate in the NNBA 2019 Shark Tank Competition. We will share the video highlights of this past year’s competition, and you will see how difficult it was for the judges to choose the winner. All the finalists were great. Lorie Brown has a nice write up of the event in our second article of interest below.

Advanced Plan for Health, LLC, is an advanced and predictive analytics firm based in Westlake, Texas (a suburb of Dallas). They have exciting national opportunities for Work-at-Home Telephonic Medical Management Nurse Navigator / Health Coach. Click here for the job description and contact information.

Mobile health and Tele-health innovations are coming on strong, and as soon as the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT Coding Manual) catches up with technology, we will be seeing more and more non-traditional opportunities.
Unfortunately the AMA owns the CPT and there is not one nurse on the CPT Editorial Panel. This is one of the reasons it is so frustrating for nurses to get direct reimbursements. Looking out to what is happening in the healthcare delivery landscape; traditional models will continue to decline. Nurses need to look at reimbursement models and get involved. If you are a nurse that knows how to work with legislation and regulation, please reach out to me so we have more nurses involved in CPT. If we can’t get our nursing service out of the room rate, we have to be a recognized provider in the newer areas of technology.

Are you a leader when it comes to thinking outside the box? There are 4 Innovation Personality Types. Which 1 Are You?, is our first article of interest. I highly recommend a book by Tony Robbins called “Awaken the Giant Within”. There a plethora of good information and motivation I gleaned from reading that book. In our last article of interest, author Joel Brown, Founder of addicted2success writes 63 Tony Robbins Quotes that Changed My Life. See which one is your favorite. To wrap this issue, in a couple of days, our family is heading back east to celebrate Thanksgiving with our extended family. We wish for each of you an abundant and blessed Holiday.

Unconventionally yours,

Michelle

Here is a personality test for leaders: those who create products, services, and businesses; those who manage teams big and small; and those who have to be agile thinkers to face complex challenges. Read through the four groups below--Revolutionary, Evolutionary, Traditional, and Reactionary--and see where you fit in as a leader. Then think about your team. And then your organization. Where do they fit? And how can you collectively achieve the change and innovation needed?

I have a soft spot for Revolutionaries, because dedication to innovation is thrilling, and it makes you feel like you're living at the cutting edge and serving a bigger purpose. I have also learned how quickly scales can change, and top organizations and their leaders can get burned out and retreat to the safety of incremental change. Inversely, Evolutionaries can become Revolutionaries; and Naysayers can become the best advocates for disruption once they see the value of being a Revolutionary.
Recently I attended the National Nurses in Business Association. Each year they have a “shark tank” competition, like the TV show, and this year was the best so far. I can’t believe these business and product ideas created by these amazing nurses.

Gwen Jewell is a wound care nurse and founder of jewellnursingsolutions.com. She created a product which, unlike foam wedges, actually does a much better job at reducing pressure on vulnerable areas.

Lori Forneris, co-owner of Nurse Expert Consultants, wants to create an app to improve communications among staff members. I love how nurses are getting on the tech train.

Yordis Morrison is founder and CEO of Nurses Off The Clock, LLC. When her mother fell ill with cancer, Yordis realized how patients’ bodies are exposed and are not given privacy with the gowns that are normally provided because of all the medical lines and appliances. She created this really cool set of medical pajamas that are covered with buttons and snaps for any type of medical equipment.
For most of my life I was brought up off the teachings from the legendary life coach “Tony Robbins“. I had the opportunity to see Tony live on stage in Sydney a few years ago and I believe his words of advice helped to elevate me to the next level of success during tough times. I was pen to paper the entire conference noting every Tony Robbins quote that I could, saving them to my smart phone and desktop to motivate me each and everyday towards success.

So this collection of Tony Robbins quotes are a homage and respect to the legendary Robbins who is doing amazing things in this world by impacting the lives of those who are passionate about self development.

Below are the top Tony Robbins quotes to help change your life:
“The secret of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you do that, you’re in control of your life. If you don’t, life controls you.” – Tony Robbins
