Dear Friend

After, a hiatus of more than one Covid year, I am writing to my friends in the South East to first, say hello, second to say, I hope you and your family are safe and healthy and third to say what I have been doing during the lockdown post-Brexit, whilst thinking of you.

I realised a long time ago that after Brexit we needed to re-establish ourselves;  as Boris Johnson has so adroitly done as - “Global Britain” - an outward-looking, free-trading, law-abiding, environmentally responsible,  problem solving, dependable, human rights propagating, industrious, good neighbourly nation.

One of the strongest and deepest foundations for a “ Global Britain,” is something the UK had already constructed over a period of 250 years, bound together by the English language and the common law,  the values of the Magna Carta, the division of powers of the Glorious Revolution, the extension of adult universal franchise and representative parliamentary governance throughout what is now the modern Commonwealth.

I decided to spend the last year in lockdown creating a Commonwealth "demos", a Commonwealth of Peoples in addition to  54 National Governments. A demos can only be created by sharing values, hopes and aspirations, news, habits, art, music, culture, and sport’s in a common format. To this end, my global team and I have created the Commonwealth Union, the only news media platform bringing Commonwealth businesses, enterprise, technology, sports, culture and politics into one place, to be presented daily to the 2.4 billion people in our multicultural, multiracial Commonwealth headed by HM The Queen.

You can read this daily in http://www.commonwealthunion.com

When I was your MEP for 20 years I repeatedly empathised how important the Commonwealth will be for our collective future. According to KPMG, by 2035 the worlds largest economy will be China, followed in second place by the Commonwealth Group, and then far far behind, by the USA and then the EU. Equally importantly, the Commonwealth will have the youngest population with the greatest potential for growth while the EU and China will be growing older and older.
These all matter to the UK’s well being and our power to punch above our weight. In Boris Johnson, at long last, we have a Prime Minister who has a vision for our country, and a steadfast determination to once again, to be a globally responsible nation.
Our media platform will be a small adjunct to serve the Prime Minister’s national purpose, as the only Commonwealth wide media organ.

I would be enormously grateful if you could read it daily, comment on it and even send your views and articles to make it a vibrant forum for exchanging views in a rapidly challenging world of pandemics, vaccines and slow recovery.

Kind regards
