LOANS OR ESSAYS - WHERE ARE YOU IN THE PROCESS?
Just Sign On The Dotted Line…

We all love our kids, but are we prepared to act as cosigners on their student loans…especially when you consider that the student loan delinquency rate is 11.2%? Cosigning for your student at a private lender can land you in financial hot water if you don’t understand the ramifications of how that could impact both your and your student’s credit. Terminology like “credit checks,” “hard pulls,” “soft pulls,” and “debt-to-income ratio” are all things that should become part of your vocabulary when you are considering assuming this financial responsibility. How Student Loans Impact a Cosigner and Student Credit lays it all out on the line.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, was one of the most notable American essayists. We’re not quite sure that he ever had to write a college admissions essay, but he certainly could have been referring to them when he wrote those words. Summer is the perfect time to begin organizing one’s thoughts and playing around with some ideas. There’s no pressure and your child may find as he/she writes about himself, it’s not only the reader who will begin to know him a little bit better. In Writing a College Essay: Tips For Success, students will find a lot of help and guidance…as long as they “get started.”

INFORMATION YOU NEED TO FIND AFFORDABLE COLLEGES
Need Help Finding Merit Scholarships?

Are you in a similar situation to this parent from our Paying For College 101 group:

"I am hoping I have missed some obvious place where I can do this....I am currently helping my DS make a spreadsheet that lets us compare schools on these basic variables--avg gpa, avg ACT, admissions rate, net price. I cannot do this on naviance, college navigator, niche, collegehunch or big future. Help! We have spent so much time manually entering information and are barely half way done. Is there some service that will let me do this painlessly? TIA"

If you're looking for a solution to help you organize all the data you need to do a thorough college search, then consider our College Data Spreadsheet(click to see a sample).  It combines data from IPEDS (government data) and Common Data Set information in ONE place to sort, filter, and compare colleges the way you should to find affordable colleges and those that are generous with merit or need based aid.

Here's what one member said about the spreasheet...

"This is really worth it. The amount of time saved makes it so worth the money. I can't even tell you how many times I've gone back to the master spreadsheet and now I've made scaled-down ones with just the colleges that are still in the running with just the data we find most important for both my daughters."
