Below is an email I sent the other week about our College Admissions & Funding CoLAB.

I recently worked with two private college counselors to put together a new approach to college planning called the College Admissions & Funding CoLAB.

I wanted to create a program that would be more affordable than working one on one with a professional, but still offer individualized access and attention when needed.

It’s honestly, something I wish was available when my oldest was going through this process. (I still have one more left and will definitely be doing this when it’s his time).

The CoLAB will begin next Tuesday (6/26) and is limited to 20 families. If you’re interested to learn more about it, I’d be happy to set up a quick call or have Michele Larson (one of the counselors leading the CoLAB) talk with you as well.

Working one on one with most college counselors costs on average $4200, but we worked to keep the cost of the CoLAB to less than $1000 (it’s $997).

Its’ a FULL year program, covering all aspects of making sure your student finds a school thats right for him/her and one that’s as affordable as possible.

I know the CoLAB can be expensive for some families. If that’s an issue, we can break down the cost into 3 payments, just let me know. We really tried to keep things reasonable.

If you’re interested in talking more whether the CoLAB is right for you and your student, set up a quick appointment with either Michele or myself here:

(We’re only available Thursday, Friday or Monday, even though the calendar goes beyond that date).

All the best,
Debbie

DON'T OVERSPEND FOR COLLEGE - JOIN OUR CoLAB
If you're a parent of a rising senior, you may be worried that you don't know everything you need to know to handle your child's college admissions and funding process on your own.

That's the way I felt when I went through the process with my oldest child.

I panicked and signed up with a pricey private college counselor, without doing enough reserach to really understand what she would do for us and if she was capable of it.

I learned my lesson, which was there are too many pieces to the college admissions and funding process and no ONE person has the skills to handle it all.

To solve this problem, I reached out to private college counselors I've gotten to know through the Paying For College 101 Facebook group and worked with them to create a new type of college counseling approach.

The College Admissions & Funding CoLAB is a year long program, lead by experienced private counselors, assisted with topic specific experts.

It's the best of both worlds - seasoned college counselors guiding you and your student for a year (because that's how long the full process takes), along with experts to help in specific areas like test prep, financial aid and scholarships.

FINDING WAYS TO SAVE $50,000
How will the CoLAB help you find ways to save $50,000 and prevent you from overspending?

The CoLAB combines college admissions and college funding!

To get the best results financially, academically, and socially, I've never understood why these two process were handled separately (or sometimes the funding piece is never addressed at all).

The most critial steps for finding ways to save on college tuition, making sure schools are affordable and deciding whether the investment is worth it, involves understanding ALL of the following:
  • how the financial aid system works
  • what your expected family contribution is (EFC)
  • what your net cost will be at individual colleges
  • how your student's academic profile compares to the top 25% at a school
  • which schools can be most generous based on your student's profile and your family's financial situation
  • and your student's aptitudes, career interests and potential earnings

This should and can be done BEFORE you and your student finalize their college list of schools he/she will apply to.

The goal of the CoLAB is to provide families with a hybrid, cost effective approach to college planning.

The hyrbird approach is a combination of group coaching sessions combined with individualized reports, and unlimited access to Joanne and Michele (the CoLAB leaders) to answer personal questions, when needed.

I know deciding to participate in this type of program is a big step and an expense (though it's a quarter of the cost compared to the average fee of $4100 that private college counselors charge to work one on one with families).

Feel free to reach out to me (debbie@road2college.com) or Michele Larson (Michele@K4College.com) with any questions or schedule a time to talk.

We are limiting the CoLAB to 20 families.

In order to cover all the topics we need to, the first CoLAB session begins Tuesday, June 26th!

Don't hesitate to talk to us about alternative, flexible payment plans. Our goal is to find a way for families to participate and benefit from the CoLAB.
I released the first round of our 2018 Merit & Need Aid Survey results and I've bundled it with our popular Financial Aid Timeline.

RISING SENIORS: WHAT TO DO NOW.....
It's time to understand Demonstrated Interest - what it is and the best ways to show it to colleges. We recently did a Facebook Live with Anna Ren, an indepedent college counselor, who shared the 6 ways she tells her students how to show demonstrated interested to the colleges on their list.

If you haven't yet, please have a conversation with your child about college costs and what you can afford. A recent study found 62% of high school seniors "agree that they haven't done enough research about how to pay for college" - Yikes!
