Computer Science Education Week
It's not too late to register for our next regional NEW CS Advisory Board meeting on Tuesday, December 8 from 2:30 - 4:00. Agenda and registration information below.

In addition to the NEW CS Advisory board meeting, there are a number of other exciting things happening in honor of Computer Science Week which kicks off on December 7. The CS Talent Ecosystem Youth (CSTEY), an initiative under CESA 7, has created a series of 10 CS videos. These videos will be aired on Fox 11 news all week long. Plus, there will be social media posts promoting computer science education.

NEW NORTH, December 7, 2020 – Debtle of Kohler and Pure and Complete Phonics LLC of Oshkosh were judged as the winners at the NEW Launch Alliance HATCH Event, held virtually on Dec. 3. They emerged from six competitors who earlier had qualified by winning local pitch events during Startup Week in Wisconsin to earn prize money.

The two winners will be invited to pitch again at the New North Summit in 2021 to receive broader investor attention. Last year’s Summit winners also will provide an update on the status of their company launches.

Gov. Evers Order Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

MADISON —​ Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #97 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Mon., Dec. 7, 2020 on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The attack on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of O'ahu took the lives of 2,403 Americans and injured 1,178 more.

New North, Inc. joins the country in honoring National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. We honor those who were lost and the enduring legacy of our veterans, including the more than 5,800 World War II veterans currently living in Wisconsin. Veterans make up 7.3% of the New North regional population and New North, Inc. is working hard with Mission Wisconsin and partnering companies to grow this number.

New North Region Stepping Up to the COVID-19 Challenge
ThedaCare makes plans to distribute COVID-19 vaccine
WBAY
Wis. (WBAY) - The very first shipment of a COVID-19 vaccine could arrive in Northeast Wisconsin in the next two weeks. Friday, ThedaCare shared new information about its distribution plan.

ThedaCare says the state will initially receive 50,000 vaccines but it’s unclear how many will go to each individual health care provider. We do know those who work in health care will receive it first. Depending on how many vaccines are received, an emphasis will be on offering it to those who work in hospital emergency rooms or COVID wards.

This is all pending the expected FDA approval of the vaccine created by Pfizer next week. The Pfizer vaccine requires....

Lakeshore Technical College trains frontline workers to fill hospital shortages amid COVID-19

While the Wisconsin Nurses Association reports the supply of nurses dwindling with many out of work as a result of having COVID-19 or quarantining because of exposure, students graduating from the nursing-associate degree program at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland continue passing the National Council Licensure Examination on their first attempt at high rates. The college’s pass rate for graduates taking the exam in 2020 through November is 97%.

Lawrence, CPED partner on delivering business courses

Insight On Business
Lawrence University and the Wisconsin School of Business Center for Professional and Executive Development have launched a partnership to offer learning and development opportunities to the business community in the Fox Valley.

The partnership, facilitated through CPED, provides immersive programs on critical skill development. The courses are being delivered online during the COVID-19 pandemic but will shift to in-person sessions on the Lawrence campus when it’s safe to do so.

Two new firms have joined KerberRose effective December 1, 2020. This includes Klismith Accounting & Tax Group, S.C. in Plover, WI joining KerberRose and Scott Ciullo, Inc. dba MI Retirement Guys, LLC in Marquette, MI joining KerberRose Wealth Management (KRWM).

These two firms joining KerberRose strengthen KerberRose’s presence in Northeast and Northcentral Wisconsin – and now in the Upper Peninsula – to a total of 13 locations. The agreement with Scott Ciullo, Inc. dba MI Retirement Guys, LLC also marks KerberRose’s first office outside of Wisconsin.
