Gamblers at Oneida Casino near Green Bay can now legally bet on Packers, Bucks, Brewers, a first for Wisconsin

ONEIDA -- The Oneida Nation will start to take sports bets this week as its new gaming compact amendment with the state takes effect.

It will be the first time legal sports betting takes place in Wisconsin.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Tuesday at the tribe’s main casino, at 2040 Airport Drive near Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport, with Oneida “Bingo Queens” Sandra Brehmer and Alma Webster scheduled to place the first bets.

Brehmer and Webster are credited with starting and operating the most profitable bingo games in Wisconsin, starting in 1976 in the pre-tribal casino era, that became one of the largest revenue generators for the tribe at the time...

Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity new CEO Jessica Diederich brings 'wealth of nonprofit experience and business knowledge'

BELLEVUE -- Jessica Diederich has been hired as the new executive director and CEO of affordable housing builder Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity.

Diederich will begin the new role Dec. 13. She is currently president of Freedom House Ministries, which operates an emergency family shelter on Green Bay's east side. Prior to Freedom House, Diederich worked for the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, now known as Discover Green Bay.

Jessica Diederich will become the CEO and executive director of Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity Dec. 13, 2021.

Her nonprofit experience, prior work with Habitat as its volunteer coordinator from 2008-2010 and community connections are why Habitat's board of directors selected her, said Board President Vern Peterson in a media release...

Applications open for $75 million in grants aimed to support diverse businesses

WI DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION PRESS RELEASE

MADISON -- Today, the Evers Administration opened the application period for two programs totaling $75 million targeted toward supporting diverse businesses and communities disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

Gov. Evers previously announced he was directing federal funds to make the $75 million investment in October. The $37.5 million Diverse Business Assistance Grant Program will provide support to ethnic and diverse chambers of commerce and other collaboratives that provide technical assistance and services to businesses that have historically been denied access to capital and are owned by members of communities disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Diverse Business Investment Grant Program will provide an additional $37.5 million to community development financial institutions (CDFIs), for grants to small and micro-businesses that are owned by members of communities that were historically denied access to capital and those that were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic...

Permits for new housing are rising in Wisconsin. That could help curb rising prices.
WISCONSIN PUBLIC RADIO

The number of permits for new home construction has been sharply rising in Wisconsin, which could help address rising home prices.

A Wisconsin Policy Forum study of U.S. Census data found permits for new housing units from January to September 2021 were up 26 percent from the previous year.

While that isn't near the peaks in permits the state saw during the 1990s and most of the 2000s, lead author Mark Sommerhauser said it's still the strongest level of permit activity in more than a decade....
