How tech opportunities are energizing towns across the US: Northeast Wisconsin

Microsoft News
When the giant, illuminated “Titletown” sign went up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the city’s skyline got a little brighter last year. So did the region’s outlook with the launch of TitletownTech, a joint venture between the Green Bay Packers and Microsoft to spur economic development in Northeast Wisconsin.

Housed in the Titletown complex of shops and restaurants near the Packers’ stadium, the venture-building company is creating a lively tech and innovation environment in an economy long reliant on blue-collar manufacturing jobs.

“There’s an entrepreneurial and creative side in the DNA of folks here, and we want to take that bold, intuitive and driven entrepreneur and jump them into an ecosystem that enables connections and....

How do you make music in a pandemic? A Lawrence University alum designed masks music students can wear while they play
Appleton Post-Crescent
APPLETON - To Nathan Graff, making music is all about the social experience — playing with other talented musicians in front of an audience, adapting and reacting together measure by measure.

That's why the Winona, Minn. native decided to study music education and trombone performance at Lawrence University. His trombone teacher at home had recommended the small liberal arts school for its music conservatory and trombone instructor.

Graff, who had never before heard of Appleton, visited and fell in love with the campus and community nestled along the....

Wisconsin home sales up 25% in October, as markets recover from pandemic plunge

Green Bay Press-Gazette
GREEN BAY - Low mortgage interest rates helped fuel a 24.9% increase statewide in existing home sales in October, erasing sales declines during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sales results have almost flipped compared to five months ago, when the pandemic sent sales plummeting 25% compared to May 2019, pushing year-to-date sales down 5.5% for those first five months of the year.

Every region in the state saw double-digit percentage increases in home sales last month. Statewide, year-to-date sales are now 4.5% higher than they were through....

Four Fox Valley school districts growing greens after donation

WBAY
APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Students aren’t the only thing growing in several Fox Valley schools this year. Appleton, Freedom, Kaukauna and Little Chute are now producing their own leafy greens.

Appleton East High School is just one of four local schools to receive flex farms from Fork Farms. The indoor vertical hydroponic growing systems were funded by a donation from East Wisconsin Savings Bank. “Being able to partner with the schools is just an added bonus for us because it just spreads the knowledge and the learning experience to so many more people.”

The flex farms can grow up to 30 pounds of leafy greens a week. Some of those greens are being incorporated into school meals for those in class, others are being boxed up and given away through the Appleton school district’s food....
