US Navy’s 25th Littoral Combat Ship Christened In Namesake City

NAVAL NEWS 

MARINETTE – Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) 25, the future USS Marinette, completed its next milestone when ship sponsor, the Honorable Jennifer Granholm christened the ship by breaking a bottle of sparkling wine on the bow of LCS 25 in a ceremony at Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin. Prior to the christening, the Lockheed Martin-led team launched the ship into the water on Oct. 31, 2020. LCS 25 is slated to begin acceptance trials next year....

Bergstrom Automotive to expand BMW, Mercedes-Benz service center in Grand Chute

GRAND CHUTE – Bergstrom Automotive has big plans for 2022.

“It will probably be one of our biggest growth years ever as far as investing and infrastructure,” CEO and president Tim Bergstrom told The Post-Crescent.

Bergstrom will kick off the new year with a significant expansion of its BMW and Mercedes-Benz service center at 3002 N. Victory Lane in Grand Chute. The company announced it broke ground on the 21,000-square-foot expansion on its Facebook page Nov. 10.

“The addition is gigantic,” Bergstrom said. “Absolutely beautiful.”..

Lakeland and Bemis partner to expand employees' skills
LAKELAND UNIVERSITY

PLYMOUTH -- Lakeland University and Bemis Manufacturing have created a way for Bemis’ third-shift employees to expand their professional skill set that fits with their work schedule and their bank account.

Bemis employees have access to a Lakeland course entitled Pathways to Success: An Introduction to Business one night a week before their work shift at Bemis.

Students will learn more about the business-economics of the workplace to develop an appreciation for the work, people and personal skills essential for success. Students will also become familiar with the economic environment in which businesses operate, organizational structures, functional areas, career options, terminology, ethics and protocols of business....

Groundbreaking held for Door County granary after years of uncertainty

STURGEON BAY - There was a sigh of relief and a sign of progress Friday afternoon for a structure that was in limbo for several years.

“We kick off a construction phase of a project that has seen many, many twists and turns,” Beth Renstrom, executive director of the Door County Granary, said. “The Teweles and Brandies grain elevator is possibly is one of only a handful of the original wooden grain elevators left on the Great Lakes, which used to have hundreds if not thousands.”

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a wooden granary that is more than a 100 years old with construction set to start in the next few weeks, ushering in a process to convert the granary into a modern, sustainable event space....

Ground breaks for new Sister Bay clinic

DOOR COUNTY DAILY NEWS 

DOOR COUNTY -- By next November, you could be walking into Door County Medical Center’s newest medical facility after breaking ground on the Sister Bay project Friday afternoon.

Representatives from Door County Medical Center, Boldt Construction, Caldwell Associates Architects, and local government leaders were all on hand for the ceremony that kicked off the 30,000-square foot, $14.5 million project. The future clinic will house what is currently located at the Fish Creek clinic and Sister Bay rehab services facilities. Dr. Rory Johnson from the Door County Medical Center told the crowd gathered along Canterbury Lane about the positive impact the extra space would have on the services they provide. Door County Medical Center Board Chairperson William Mundy said the new facility is another step forward in taking care of the community and its health and well-being....

UW-Green Bay seeking approval to build new student residence hall

GREEN BAY – UW-Green Bay is seeking city approval for a 232-student campus housing project.

The four-story building would be built by University Village Housing, Inc. on land east of the Mauthe Center and north of the Kress Event Center, according to documents submitted to the city.

Construction on the property would begin in the spring of 2022, with an anticipated completion for the fall semester of 2023. The $20 million project includes single and double apartments...

The USS Marinette is the first commissioned U.S. Navy combatant ship to bear the name – in honor of the city’s significant contribution to Navy shipbuilding. Shipbuilding has been part of the fabric of the New North since 1942. Since that time, more than 1,500 vessels have been produced in Marinette. Naval News story above.
