APPLETON -- This year, PodcastHosting.org estimated that there are over 2 million podcasts in the world with more than 48 million episodes available. The number of those listening continues to grow, and in the United States, 75% of the population is familiar with the term “podcasting” and half of all homes are podcast fans.

Households, businesses asked to complete broadband survey by Friday

GREEN BAY — Northeast Wisconsin households and businesses are asked to complete a short public survey about current broadband service conditions by this Friday, Oct. 29. Homes should have received the survey via U.S. Mail late last week. It also is available online, for both residences and businesses, at https://www.thenewnorth.com/broadband-access/.

Appleton-based company BoxBlox manufacturers mailbox protectors to prevent snow damage
APPLETON POST-CRESCENT  

APPLETON – As winter rapidly approaches, a new Fox Cities business is offering a solution to an issue homeowners often face at this time of year.

BoxBlox is an Appleton-based company that manufactures mailbox protectors. Wisconsin resident Matt Schalewski founded BoxBlox in May 2020 after seeing the toll that the harsh winter months can take on mailboxes, especially in rural areas that experience significant snowfall.

“It was really the epiphany of driving in rural areas and seeing the damage (to mailboxes),” Schalewski told The Post-Crescent. “If you take any sort of short or medium drive out into the country, and just pay attention to mailboxes, you’re going to see a variety of configurations out there.”....

Local man launches composting program 'Greener Bay Compost' out of his backyard

GREEN BAY — Cory Groshek is running Green Bay's only curbside compost pickup service, right out of his backyard.

"I make this easy, clean and convenient," he said. "Those are the three things I hear from most of my subscribers."

After only two months, Groshek and his subscribers have already kept more than 2,000 pounds of organic, would-be waste out of our landfills.

Lakeshore Tech: College wind energy program thriving

SHEBOYGAN — Lakeshore Technical College's wind energy program is right now in its 13th year.

According to college officials, the first degree awarded through the program was in 2008.

Wind energy instructor Justin Barrett said there are currently eight full-time students, plus four part-time students, enrolled in the program...
