Manitowoc's big blue crane wins the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin competition
MANITOWOC HERALD TIMES REPORTER 

MANITOWOC - And the winner of the annual Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest is … the big blue Navy crane made by Broadwind Heavy Fabrications in Manitowoc.

Nearly 210,000 votes were cast over multiple rounds of the contest, and about 70,000 votes were placed in the final round naming “Big Blue,” as the 195-foot-tall crane became known on social media, the champion.

Ground broken on new solar energy field in Sheboygan County

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY -- The latest solar energy project in Sheboygan County broke ground on Thursday.

A more than 200 kW field of solar panels is being built on the 38-1/2 acre campus of the Sheboygan Senior Community on County Highway “Y” in the Town of Sheboygan. A partnership between the Sheboygan Senior Community, Legacy Solar Co-Op, Arch Electric of Plymouth and the Clean Energy Program of Lakeshore Technical College. The project was made possible by grants including one for nearly a quarter million dollars ($242,581) from Wisconsin’s Office of Energy Innovation, which will use the project as a template for other nonprofits in Wisconsin switching to solar. Another $25,000 grant was received from Solar for Good, with the remainder funded through a tax sponsor....

GREEN BAY—Ask UW-Green Bay student Hannah Beauchamp-Pope about her participation in the University’s new BIPOC R.I.S.E program and the student mentor will speak glowingly about her experience. Beauchamp-Pope is this year’s recipient of the Newman Civic Fellowship and radiates a passion for social activism and the community.

Wisconsin PSC awards $100 million in federal pandemic relief to fund broadband expansion

Wisconsin utility regulators have awarded nearly $100 million in federal pandemic relief money to fund broadband expansion projects expected to bring high-speed internet access to more than 29,000 homes and businesses.

The Public Service Commission selected 83 projects from 242 applications seeking more than $440 million in public funding.

The grant awards, the largest in state history, more than double the $73.6 million in broadband funding the state has provided over the past eight years, including $48 million set aside in the last two-year budget....
