Organizations piloting a new program to support entrepreneurs have until October 29th to apply for the competitive Entrepreneurship Partner Grant
WISCONSIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION 

WEDC has launched a new grant program that will fund organizations creating innovative new programs and/or sustain existing programs to support entrepreneurs.

Organizations piloting a new program and new ways to support entrepreneurs have until October 29th to apply for the competitive Entrepreneurship Partner Grant (EPG-C).

These grants, up to $50,000, are designed to help organizations test and develop entrepreneurship support programs – anything from education to technical assistance and more.

Established programs, such as seed accelerators, and programs that have been funded before may apply for the open Entrepreneurship Partner Grants (EPG) program annually. These grants require the applicant have a record of success working with entrepreneurs. Organizations may apply throughout the year as long as funding is available. The maximum grant is generally $200,000.

Appleton man's zoo app wants to take you on a safari

The next time you visit the zoo, Ron Borkowicz of Appleton hopes you’ll turn it into a safari.

A three-time teacher of the year, Borkowicz is in the process of launching Photo Fun Safaris, an app that helps make going to the zoo an entertaining and educational experience.

Ornua acquires leading US cheese business Whitehall Specialties Inc.

Irish dairy cooperative, Ornua, announced today it has completed the acquisition of US cheese ingredients business, Whitehall Specialties Inc (WSI) for an undisclosed sum from Mason Wells, a private equity firm based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This acquisition complements Ornua’s US Ingredients division, Ornua Ingredients North America (OINA), and is central to Ornua’s long-term growth strategy in the US cheese ingredients market.

Two Northeast Wisconsin manufacturers featured in Magnolia Network original series
INSIGHT PUBLICATIONS 

APPLETON -- Two long-time manufacturers in Northeast Wisconsin will be featured on the Oct. 15 episode of a Magnolia Network series called ”Extraordinary Stories Behind Everyday Things.”

The segment focuses on Tru-Ray Construction Paper and showcases Dixon Ticonderoga (formerly Pacon Corp.) and Ahlstrom-Munksjö. The two companies have worked collaboratively for almost 20 years creating these colored school and craft construction papers.

With both organizations having plants based in Fox Valley's ”Paper Valley” region of Wisconsin, the partnership and the local connections resonated with the network’s producers...

Madison biotech startup Immuto Scientific raises $2.3 million to scale its drug discovery

A biotechnology company started out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison has raised $2.3 million almost entirely from investors within the state.

Immuto Scientific Inc. plans to use its $2.3 million in seed funding for equipment and staffing needed to take its analytical research services to market with pharmaceutical companies, according to a recent announcement.
