UW Oshkosh named among state's top schools for military service members, veterans
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN OSHKOSH

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is one of the best schools for military service members and veterans in the state, according to newly published rankings by Military Times.

UW Oshkosh landed at No. 2 in Wisconsin and No. 98 nationwide among public schools in the 2022 Best for Vets: Colleges rankings. The list is the result of a survey of more than 300 schools that answered more than 70 questions about their services and programs specific to military students, whether active duty, veteran or families and dependents of service members.

Student success metrics like completion, retention, persistence and GPA were the top factors in the rankings, followed closely by the range of military-specific resources and offered financial assistance. Outagamie County, Menominee Nation partner to honor Native history
WBAY

LITTLE CHUTE -- Outagamie County announced a partnership with the Menominee Nation to recognize a historical marker in the Fox Valley honoring the tribe. It comes on Indigenous Peoples Day.

A very small piece of land alongside the Fox River is the exact spot where the Treaty of the Cedars was signed back in 1836, transferring about 4 million acres of tribal property over to the U.S. government for about 17 cents an acre, including a big chunk of Northeast Wisconsin from Oshkosh to Marinette and west to Wausau.

For years, Outagamie County has been working with the state to acquire this site. It finally happened two months ago.

“This was Menominee land, this was sacred Menominee land, and I think it’s important to build on that relationship and also make sure the Menominee are also part of this,” Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson said...

A growing number of women are entering the manufacturing industry
WISCONSIN PUBLIC RADIO

NPR's Ayesha Rascoe speaks with Allison Grealis, president of the Women in Manufacturing trade association, about the growing number of women who have entered the industry.

AYESHA RASCOE, HOST:

The number of women in jobs in manufacturing increased steadily between 2010 and 2020, and after a dip during the pandemic, those numbers are going up again. The nature of these jobs has changed, too - less manual labor, more tech and automation. Allison Grealis is the founder and president of the Women in Manufacturing trade association. She joins us now to talk about how the industry has evolved. Allison, thank you so much for being here.

ALLISON GREALIS: Thanks so much for having me.

RASCOE: Why has the number of women in manufacturing grown over the last decade or so, particularly since the pandemic drove so many women out of the labor force?

GREALIS: You know, I think women are now hearing about these great opportunities in manufacturing. I think they're also hearing more about the fact that the pay is really strong, competitive and great in manufacturing and things like the increase in automation and, as well, some of the early intervention things that we're doing as a society related to STEM and STEAM camps and education - I think all of those things combined are really helping...
