Need Your Assistance – Region’s COVID Cases on the Rise - Message from WEDC Secretary & CEO Missy Hughes

Dear Business and Community Leaders in the New North Region,

I know as investors and stakeholders in New North, you are a leader interested in your region’s economic success. That success, and rebuilding momentum following the COVID crisis, are at a pivot point right now. The spread of the virus in your region is reaching a critical point, and we must stop the spread right now.

I am asking you as board members and as business owners, and as leaders in your communities, to please go the extra step right now to communicate with your employees and your stakeholders to take every precaution we all know right now: stay home if possible, wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands. These simple steps are proven to stem the spread of the virus.

Even if you feel you have done what you can at your business – safety precautions, working from home, etc., I’m going to ask you to lean in and reach out once more. Remind folks that we all need to do our part right now. Employees trust their employers – they trust you.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give Wisconsin right now. Acting now puts us on the path to economic recovery that much faster. Failure to act will impact our health, and slow our future.

Please reach out to me directly for anything you need, or any concerns you have.

Be well, and thank you.

Missy

Rising tide: Massive contract good news for Marinette and beyond
Insight On Business
Marinette County — and the rest of the region — received an enormous economic boost when the U.S. Navy awarded Fincantieri Marinette Marine the nearly $800 million contract for its first-in-class guided missile frigate FFG(X) earlier this year. If all options on the contract are exercised, the deal could be worth $5.5 billion.

To fulfill the order, Fincantieri plans to hire up to 1,000 employees within the next five years at its three area shipyards — the one in Marinette, Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay and ACE Marine in Green Bay. All three will contribute to the frigate’s construction.

The first FFG(X) is planned to be delivered in 2026 and if the shipyard builds all 10, the project will keep workers busy for the next two....

Southern Bridge Connector route to be finalized by October; Brown Co., De Pere, Lawrence funding $1.2 million engineering study
Green Bay Press-Gazette
The route of the long-discussed South Bridge Connector south of De Pere will be announced next month.

Brown County expects to complete an environmental impact statement next month that will allow the Federal Highway Administration to sign off on a path for the connector road and where it connects with Interstate 41. The bridge and route — a proposal that has been discussed since the late 1960s — is designed to route truck traffic around downtown De Pere and alleviate congestion, particularly on and around the...

A whole new look: Oshkosh’s ongoing developments bring new opportunities
Insight On Business
Downtown Oshkosh is home to several developments that will reshape the city’s landscape. Merge Urban Development Group began construction on the first of what could become three projects — the Brio Building at the intersection of Pearl and Jackson streets.

Located in one of Oshkosh’s opportunity zones, the Oshkosh Food Co-op’s 8,000-square-foot store will occupy Brio’s first floor, with 60 apartments on the building’s second to fifth floors. Brio is centrally located between the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and downtown.

Merge, which has offices in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Madison, is already planning for its second Oshkosh project, Mackson Corners. That development, which partially faces the Fox River along with Jackson Street and Marion Road, will feature residential unit sizes from....

Sheboygan named “Best Small Town” in Wisconsin
WHBL
Sheboygan was named the “Best Small Town in Wisconsin” by the trip planning website tripsavvy.com. The online publication paid plenty of attention to Sheboygan’s reputation as the “Malibu of the Midwest” and the many recreational options afforded on the lakeshore and riverfront.

Also contributing to Sheboygan’s small town honors were the museums of Above & Beyond for kids and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. Also not to be missed:...
