Oshkosh eyes new development near Fox River
THE BUSINESS NEWS

OSHKOSH - If you’ve visited Oshkosh lately, you might have noticed the boom of new apartment complexes being built, especially on or near the Fox River.

Many would consider it a good place for residential development.

Madison-area developer T. Wall Enterprises, who will construct a three-building, mixed-use development on East 7th Avenue, builds all its properties near water or parks – Oshkosh has an abundance of both.

T. Wall recently received the green light from the City of Oshkosh to construct the complex on the south side of the Fox River between South Main Street and the railroad tracks near Pioneer Drive.

In order to make the development happen in this blighted area – which was previously mostly all industrial – the city has created Tax Incremental Financing District No. 43.

Tax incremental financing (TIF) is a financial tool used by local governments to fund economic development.

It allows governments to finance development projects with the revenue generated by the development...

UW-Green Bay bucks UW System trend with 7th year of enrollment growth, driven partly by Hispanic students
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

GREEN BAY - As declining enrollment continues to plague the University of Wisconsin System, UW-Green Bay is experiencing its seventh year of growth.

Based on preliminary data from the first day of classes, UW-Green Bay saw a 3% enrollment increase over last year among its four campuses despite a 1% decrease across the state's public university system. After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting education, the system expected the drop.

UW-Madison offsets the statewide decrease with its over 5% boost in enrollment. Excluding the flagship university, the system is facing a 3.6%, or 4,200, decrease in students.

For the fall 2021 semester, 9,799 students were enrolled at all four of UW-Green Bay's locations in Green Bay, Marinette, Manitowoc and Sheboygan.

This semester, the university saw an increase of 316 students. UWGB administrators projected that the Hispanic student population increased by as much as 16% but won't know until final enrollment numbers are released in October...

Green Bay dives into phase two of national reserve designation
UWGB, partners gauging public interest in site locations

PRESS TIMES

GREEN BAY - Momentum continues to build in the Green Bay area for the National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), a federal designation to help protect and study coastal wetlands and natural estuaries.

Emily Tyner, the director of freshwater strategy at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB), was pleased to see a large turnout, both virtually and in-person, during two public site selection meetings Sept. 7-8 at UWGB.

More than 140 people attended, and Tyner was still taking submitted written comments through Sept. 15.

“No one spoke against it, which was good,” Tyner said. “Most of the comments were that people wanted to see more land included in the sites being considered. We understand that as people have their favorite spots. We’ll definitely consider that going forward.”

The bay of Green Bay is the world’s largest freshwater estuary, according to UWGB...
