WEDC's new Vibrant Spaces Grant Program to transform underused spaces
WISCONSIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORP.

MADISON  – Wisconsin communities can apply this fall for grants of up to $50,000 to turn vacant or under-used public spaces into attractive, busy hubs for community activities.

The Vibrant Spaces Grants are a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) pilot program that allows municipalities to apply for $25,000 to $50,000 grants to assist with local placemaking efforts.

The grant is intended to transform vacant or underused spaces into multi-purpose community gathering space....

WisDOT: Wisconsin receives federal approval for state’s Electric Vehicle Plan
WIS BUSINESS

The Federal Highway Administration has approved Wisconsin’s plan to expand its electric vehicle charging stations under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) initiative.

The approval means that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) can now receive federal funding to implement the Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan.

“As we work to implement the state’s first-ever Clean Energy Plan, upgrading Wisconsin’s electric vehicle infrastructure is one of the most important steps forward we can take to move towards a cleaner, more sustainable future,” Gov. Evers said. “This plan approval and the federal funds Wisconsin will receive as a result will help bolster our state, our infrastructure, and our economy for years to come.”...

Lakeland University marketing students bring Elktoberfest to life

When Elkhart Lake celebrates its inaugural Elktoberfest on Sept. 23-25, it will culminate the efforts of a successful partnership between the Elkhart Lake Chamber, Elkhart Lake Tourism and a talented group of Lakeland University marketing students.

As Elkhart Lake emerged from the COVID pandemic, the idea of an Octoberfest-type celebration took shape. When Elkhart Chamber Executive Director Melissa Koehler got a message from Lakeland marketing teacher Kim Viglietti searching for a project for her marketing management course, the planning kicked into high gear.

“Lakeland’s interest could not have come at the more perfect time,” said Kathleen Eickhoff, executive director of Elkhart Lake Tourism. “This was an amazing gift. It gave us an opportunity to have some young minds about the age of people we’re trying to bring into the village help us come up with new and fresh ideas.”...

APPLETON -- Highlighting the lives of everyday people is one goal of a Fox Valley artist's new exhibit.

"We can put people in front of other people who may not intermingle every single day," John Nance said.

Nance came up with the idea and did the photography. He said the inspiration is for people in the area to become more familiar with those in their same city.

"We've been in a pandemic," Nance said. "I think humans have definitely got a lot more separated from each other. So this is kind of a way to bring them back together."..

Menasha wins title of 'Best-Tasting Tap Water' in Wisconsin

MADISON – Ever wonder where the best-tasting tap water is in Wisconsin? Well, wonder no more because one municipality was declared a winner during the state’s largest annual water conference.

Menasha Water Utility was officially declared with having the best-tasting tap water in the state, based on categories of color, odor, and taste. Menasha Water Utility supplies water to both Menasha and the east side of Fox Crossing.

From throughout the state, water technology manufacturers, regulators, operators, contractors, engineers, and educators traveled to Madison for the Wisconsin Section of the American Water Works Association’s (WIAWWA) 101st annual conference...
