Broadband Expansion Grant Webinars 

The Public Service Commission's Broadband Expansion Grant Program is now accepting applications. The application and instructions were released on September 1st and are on the website. The grant deadline is December 1st. The Wisconsin Broadband Office is hosting a number of webinars for interested persons and potential applicants to attend to learn more about the grant application process. New this year we are hosting a special session on "How to Map Your Project."

‘Game-changer’: Bergstrom-led group will give $4 million to $5 million ice rink to Neenah for public use

A group of investors led by businessman John Bergstrom will build and gift to the city a $4 million to $5 million downtown ice skating rink for public use.

In addition, the group will operate and maintain the facility at no cost to the city for at least five years.

The refrigerated rink will be located in the 200 block of West Wisconsin Avenue in front of the Plexus Corp. headquarters. It will be called The Plaza at Gateway Park.

Resch Expo is ahead of schedule and on budget despite pandemic

The former Algoma Hardwoods plant is showing signs of new growth under new ownership. The nearly 300,000 square foot facility has been used for storage space and currently has two tenants. Co-owner Chip McDonald, of the McDonald Group, says one tenant, Microstar, operates a beer barrel leasing program. National aluminum shortage hits manufacturers, distributors

One Manitowoc manufacturer feels the direct impact of a national aluminum shortage, specifically a shortage of aluminum cans.

“We make molten aluminum, and we put it into sand molds and other types of molds,” said Sachin Shivaram, CEO of Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry.

In the Manitowoc community for more than 100 years, Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry creates parts used on a daily basis.

Its flavor impressed a president. Its size drew millions of fair goers eager for a peek. Its rarity made headlines wherever it traveled on the back of a specially built semi-truck trailer.

In each case, "it" was a mammoth cheese made in Wisconsin that went viral decades before the advent of social media.
