$6 million venture fund to invest in Wisconsin startups

The Winnow Fund will begin investing in Wisconsin-based startups after the state-backed venture capital fund reached its goal of raising $6 million.

The Madison-based Winnow Fund is one of six Badger Fund of Funds, which is Wisconsin’s 7-year-old venture capital program managed by Santa Fe, New Mexico-based Sun Mountain Capital and Stoughton-based Kegonsa Capital Partners LLC.

The late owner of a cheese factory is making a difference in the New London-Fremont area.

Marilynn Taylor owned and operated Wohlt Creamery in New London. After her death in 2017, her estate sold the business to create a charitable endowment fund at the Community Foundation.

Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery purchased the business in August of 2018, securing employment for 60 people.

Kraft Heinz sells cheese businesses for $3.2B

The Kraft Heinz Co. on Tuesday said it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its natural, grated, cultured and specialty cheese businesses to a U.S. affiliate of Groupe Lactalis for $3.2 billion.

This includes the following brands — Breakstone’s, Knudsen, Polly-O, Athenos, Hoffman’s, Cracker Barrel in the U.S. only; and, outside the U.S. and Canada only, Cheez Whiz.
