Wisconsin entrepreneurs take on big seltzer with Carbliss
FORBES

MADISON - Carbliss is a ready-to-drink, low ABV canned vodka cocktail, available in black raspberry, cranberry, lemonade and lemon lime flavors, and it made its debut in Madison, WI in 2019. The idea for their canned cocktail - which is only 100 calories a can and 5 percent ABV - came when they were visiting friends in Elkhart Lake, WI, and they tried a hard seltzer at their friends’ urging.

“Frankly, we weren’t impressed with the taste, and we had just begun a low carb, low calorie diet, and we wanted an enjoyable drink that aligned with our diet,” Amanda says. “We decided to experiment at home with vodka and different flavors, and we found the perfect combination of health and flavor. Carbliss was born.”...

Couple's retirement bison business grows with herd
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

SHAWANO COUNTY – After retiring from a 30-year teaching career at Hortonville High School, Mike Van Dyn Hoven wanted to start a business. Having been raised on a dairy farm in Freedom, he knew how much work farming took, and in retirement, wanted something that would be easier to manage.

“I was interested in getting into farming but I knew I didn’t want to go into something as labor-intensive as dairy farming,” he said. “At Hortonville, I taught science and conservation. That led me to consider raising bison, an animal that is native to America and has been around for 10,000 years.”

Miranda never thought she’d already have a bestseller by Summer 2021. “I just kind of thought I’d move slowly, over a number of years,” she explained. “We’d get the vineyard going. After that we’d start producing, selling the grapes, slowly making the wine. It was not gonna be this soon.”

Those plans changed when Miranda’s hours at her job in the healthcare field were slashed because of the pandemic. “I’m like, well, now or never,” she said, “and I just decided to jump right into it full time.”

Miranda quit her job to pursue her dream...
