Input sought on workforce strategies from regional partners, stakeholders

NEW NORTH, INC.

NEW NORTH – New North, Inc., the regional economic development corporation serving the 18 counties of Northeast Wisconsin, is seeking input from partners and key stakeholders as it works to develop a proposal for the state’s Workforce Innovation grant. Gov. Tony Evers announced the $100-million initiative, designed to address Wisconsin’s post-pandemic workforce needs, on July 14 in Green Bay.

New North is leading regional efforts to originate a robust, comprehensive plan that features leading-edge approaches and locally led initiatives aimed at long-term solutions to workforce challenges. $2.87 Million COVID-Related Grant Awarded to Lakeshore Technical College
LAKESHORE TECHNICAL COLLEGE

CLEVELAND – Current and future students impacted by COVID-19 will benefit from a $2.87 million competitive grant awarded to Lakeshore Technical College – the largest in the college’s history. The grant was secured through the U.S. Department of Education’s Institutional Resilience and Expanded Postsecondary Opportunity program. LTC’s portion is the largest amount awarded in Wisconsin and among the largest awarded in the country.

Funds will be used to address gaps created by the onset of the novel coronavirus at LTC and in the local K-12 system....

DWD announces Wisconsin Fast Forward grant recipients

DEPARTMENT OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT (DWD)

MADISON – Employers in manufacturing, technology, agribusiness, forest products, education, and nonprofit sectors from 10 Wisconsin counties have been awarded more than $1.17 million in grants from the Department of Workforce Development (DWD). The grants are part of DWD's Wisconsin Fast Forward (WFF) program, which provides targeted funds to support worker training, education, and recruitment.

Fast Forward funds reimburse employers for the cost of providing customized occupational training for those who are unemployed, underemployed, and for current employees. Grants are available to all Wisconsin employers. The program encourages statewide economic growth by helping employers train workers and fill positions to meet critical needs for a skilled workforce....

APPLETON POST-CRESCENT

APPLETON - The sun is high in the sky, and Gary Bomber takes off his bucket hat to wipe his forehead. He's been setting up the Mile of Music's Spats Stage at the Core for four hours Thursday, since 9:30 a.m.

But Bomber's not complaining. He said he's delighted to be working live events again.
