Door County among tops in Wisconsin for per-capita wealth, purchasing power, study says

Door County residents have money to spend and the chance to affordably spend more of it compared to much of Wisconsin, a national financial firm says.

The county ranked fourth out of Wisconsin's 72 counties for greatest per-capita wealth in the state and second for purchasing power, according to two studies by SmartAsset, a New York-based financial technology and advice company.

SmartAsset's study for wealth compared all counties in the U.S. in three metrics — investment income, median home value value, and per-capita income — and created a Wealth Index based on those rankings to determine overall rankings nationally and for each state. Among all counties in the U.S., Door County ranked 344th for wealth and 186th for purchasing power....

OSHKOSH – For some pilots, aviation runs in the family. Others might find it through schooling. For one Oshkosh native, her passion started by selling T-shirts.

Margaret Viola, however, had the benefit of having a world-renowned aviation organization in her hometown. And, at 14, she needed a summer job.

SHEBOYGAN -- Solar is slowly emerging as a significant contributor to the power grid in the Sheboygan area as two solar fields were dedicated by Alliant Energy last Wednesday.

The City of Sheboygan Solar Field is a 1-Megawatt facility on Gateway Drive in Sheboygan’s southside industrial park, consisting of 3,042 panels capable of powering 177 homes. The Kohler Solar Field on Erie Avenue just west of I-43, also dedicated last Wednesday, is more than twice that size, with 9,000 solar panels providing 2-and-a-quarter Megawatts of electricity capable of powering 580 homes. Both projects were developed in partnership with SunPeak, a Madison-based solar project developer...
