Green Bay's Austin Straubel Airport getting exterior refresh

ASHWAUBENON -- An area airport is getting a facelift.

Work began on the exterior of Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport Tuesday.

The $8.2 million exterior refresh project will provide a fresh coat of paint to the outside of the terminal while adding and updating security features for passengers.

Airport director, Marty Piette, says the most noticeable change for travelers will be painting over the terminal canopy's turquoise color, which has been there since the early 1990's, with a more modern color palate...

Federal grant to support sustainable energy on Oneida Nation reservation

ONEIDA -- The Oneida Nation Reservation is investing a grant in green energy.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $648,339 in American Rescue Plan funds to support sustainable energy on the reservation.

The money will help develop a strategic energy transition plan and explore the potential for a utility-scale solar facility and electric vehicle for tribal operations...

Generous gift provides another $6.24 million to Northeast Wisconsin nonprofit organizations

Thirty-two nonprofits throughout northeastern Wisconsin received a much-needed boost when the David L. and Rita E. Nelson Family Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region awarded more than $6.24 million in grants.

The fund has provided over $21 million in grants since its creation four years ago.

The Nelsons, who lived in De Pere, died in 2017. She was a teacher, and he was the chief financial officer for the Post-Crescent in Appleton and the Green Bay Press-Gazette until the family newspapers were sold. He then invested in radio stations and other businesses. The Nelsons left more than $100 million from their estate to their family fund at the Community Foundation. The gift was by far the largest ever received by the Community Foundation and one of the largest charitable gifts in the state’s history..

Andres elected president of Wisconsin Architects Foundation
FOX CITIES CHAMBER 

APPLETON -- Jody Andres of Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. has been elected president of the Wisconsin Architects Foundation (WAF), the charitable arm of the American Institute for Architects (AIA) Wisconsin chapter.

Andres will serve a one-year term as president during his three-year term on the WAF board of directors, leading the board as it continues to improve existing programs and find new opportunities to promote architecture while fostering young talent in joining the profession.

"It is truly a great honor to have been elected president of the Wisconsin Architects Foundation," said Andres who serves as Hoffman’s K-12 Market Leader and Senior Project Architect. "I’m excited by the opportunities the Foundation has and to continue promoting our great profession of architecture including our Dream Spaces scholarship."..

ThedaCare cuts ribbon on new health care center in the Fox Valley

APPLETON -- A ribbon cutting Thursday officially marked the grand opening of a new health care center in the Fox Valley.

ThedaCare offered a look inside its new Orthopedic, Spine and Pain Center in Appleton.

Leaders of the health care provider say the new facility includes an inpatient hospital, specialty surgery center and medical offices. They say it’s a place for help the community needs..

Groundbreaking ceremony marks beginning of Shipyard development in Green Bay

GREEN BAY -- Nearly seven years after development at the site was first proposed, shovels finally went into the ground at the Shipyard along Green Bay's riverfront.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Shipyard's first phase was held Thursday at the project's south side off West Mason Street.

The first phase of construction will include a riverfront promenade, floating docks, a fishing pier and a kayak launch. It's expected to cost about $7.8 million.

Lambeau's big soccer match, EAA AirVenture to bring millions in tourism dollars to Northeast Wisconsin

Northeast Wisconsin and the Fox Valley are ready for what could be one of the region’s busiest weeks for tourism in years.

On Saturday, two titans of international soccer — Bayern Munich of the Bundesliga and Manchester City of the Premier League — will square off in an exhibition, or "friendly," match at Green Bay's Lambeau Field. It is essentially part of the teams' pre-season.

The event, which has sold more than 77,000 tickets, marks the first time the home of the Packers has hosted a soccer game. It's one of only a handful of exhibition games by top European teams played each year in the U.S., and a big boost for Green Bay's summer tourism...

N.E.W. Credit Union marks 60th anniversary

OCONTO FALLS – The only financial institution based in Oconto County, which celebrated its 60th anniversary this month, has grown significantly over the decades.

Thirty years ago – seven years after Falls Paper Employee Credit Union became N.E.W. Credit Union, the operation had just under 5,000 members and just over $13 million in assets.

As of May of this year, there were 12,405 members and $161 million in assets. The amount of loans has increased more than seven-fold to more than $80 million...

PULASKI -- Get your dancing shoes on! Some of the best polka music in the world can be found right now in Pulaski.

The annual Polka Days festival is underway. It runs through Sunday.
