OSHKOSH -- The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board is hosting a job fair from 1-4 p.m,, Oct. 12 at the Oshkosh Arena, 1212 S. Main Street, Oshkosh. Register now to host a booth to promote opportunities at your company.

Each 10x10' booth will have pipe & drape, a 42" skirted table, 2 director chairs and a company nameplate. If needed, registered companies should plan to bring their own internet hot spots and fully charged laptops (no electricity to booths will be provided). Up to two lunches will be provided per booth (please specify the quantity of lunches you'd like to order at registration).

UW Oshkosh awarded $1 million grant to increase and retain women in STEM

OSHKOSH -- A $1 million grant will go toward addressing gender equity concerns in STEM academics at UW-Oshkosh.

The three-year National Science Foundation grant will be used across UW-Oshkosh's three campuses, Fond du Lac, Fox Cities and Oshkosh.

The UWO’s NSF ADVANCE grant team will involve creating a web-based dashboard to build awareness and transparency and track progress related to gender inequities among faculty and instructional staff in the STEM disciplines across the campuses...

Howard Commons project officially breaks ground

HOWARD  -- Howard residents have something to look forward to in the next year.

The Village of Howard has brought in Miron Construction to start building the new Howard commons. The area will have an amphitheater, splashpads and a pavilion.

"I think it'd be a great addition to this area being that all the fun and activity things are normally down by Lambeau," a Howard resident said.

The park is influenced by a similar one in Valparaiso, Ind. The same architect was brought in for the planning of Howard Commons. Renderings show what the 17,000 square foot project will look like...

Oshkosh tiny house village addresses 'absolute need' for affordable housing

OSHKOSH – About one month ago, Local 5’s Danielle Zulkosky visited the City of Oshkosh after $10.35 million was awarded to combat homelessness through building tiny homes.

On Thursday, Local 5 News was out checking in on the project and met up with Will Deppiesse, the President of the Oshkosh Kids Foundation.

Deppiesse confirmed to Local 5 News that the very first prototype house is currently under construction. The prototype will be used to be shown to the community as well as contractors who may be interested in helping out with the project...

Port of Green Bay shipping more than doubles in June from one year ago

GREEN BAY -- June proved to be a busy month for the Port of Green Bay.

Officials say shipping through the port hit 328,734 tons last month, one of the highest monthly totals in recent years.

By comparison, last month's total was 179,058 tons. A year ago, June shipping reached 149,019 tons.

“After a relatively slow start to the 2022 shipping season, it was exciting to see the ship traffic that we had in June,” said Dean Haen, Port of Green Bay Director. “We know there are many ups and downs during the typical shipping season on the Great Lakes, but we certainly hope this is a sign of good things to come for the Port.”...

CROOKED LAKE — Dan Jonet sees more new faces using the off-road trails in northern Oconto County.

He’s not only a Utility Task Vehicle rider himself, but also president of the Crooked Trails ATV Club in Crooked Lake.

“As a club we’re seeing a lot more riders up here. We’re seeing a lot of families which is really neat to see,” he said. “The growth has been large, especially in the last year or two. You’re seeing huge growth.”

Sheboygan Hmong Summer Festival returns July 23-24

SHEBOYGAN – The 35th Annual Sheboygan Hmong Summer Festival is returning to Kiwanis Park Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

The two-day celebration will feature an eclectic variety of food and drink options, vendors, sports tournaments, music, dancing and more. Here is a breakdown of the weekend’s events.

Vendors will be selling “Hmong Tournament” favorites such as pork egg rolls, grilled chicken leg quarter, Hmong sausage, pork belly paired with purple sticky rice and hot pepper sauce, spicy and sour papaya salad, hot and beefy pho noodle soup, sweet and coco-nutty nam vam, tart sliced mango topped with spicy pepper sauce, and Boba tea with smooth brown sugar tapioca pearls...

Sheboygan is the first city in Wisconsin to receive 'Pet-Friendly Certification'

SHEBOYGAN — Sheboygan has become the first city in Wisconsin to achieve a Pet Friendly Certification.

The city earned the City Certification through the Better Cities for Pets program from Mars Petcare. Leaders with the city say the accomplishment shows their commitment to creating a place where pets are not only welcome, but can thrive.

"We recognize and celebrate the four-legged residents of Sheboygan and are proud to support them," says Mayor Ryan Sorenson. "The Sheboygan Community has so many components that make us a pet-friendly community. Many of our businesses allow for pets on leashes into their establishments."
