Governor Evers visits Lakeshore Technical College to announce $1.64M grant to launch Training & Upskilling initiative
LAKESHORE TECHNICAL COLLEGE 

CLEVELAND -- Governor Tony Evers was on Lakeshore Technical College’s Cleveland campus today to announce the college has been selected to receive funding through Governor Evers’ Workforce Innovation Grant program. The college is receiving a $1.64 million grant to fund its Lakeshore Industry 4.0 Pathways and Upskilling initiative. The initiative addresses the pandemic-exacerbated critical labor shortage threatening the economic stability of the region, which is manufacturing-heavy.

The initiative will fund training and education efforts focusing on training underserved populations and upskilling current workers in automation, robotics, and “Industry 4.0.” Industry 4.0 is a term referring to a new phase in the Industrial Revolution that focuses heavily on automation, machine learning, and real-time data to optimize performance...

Waupaca awarded $50,000 for greenspace project

WAUPACA -- Waupaca residents and visitors will soon be able to enjoy greenspace in the middle of downtown.

The city was one of 25 small towns across the country to receive a T-Mobile Hometown Grant.

Waupaca says it will use its $50,000 grant toward "The Lawn" project.

The project will transform City Square on Main Street into an area where people can gather.

It will include moveable seating, interactive signs and art pieces that can double as play structures for children...

Nsight Teleservices to deliver fiber internet to Pulaski

PULASKI – All Pulaski residents and businesses will soon have access to high-speed fiber internet – this after Nsight Telservices, a local telecommunication provider, unveiled a multi-million-dollar expansion project at a press conference Monday, June 13.

CEO Brighid Riordan said the $2.2 million project will bring high-speed fiber internet to every address in the village, offering faster speeds, more bandwidth and improved reliability.

“Public-private partnerships are important to building out broadband in rural areas,” Riordan said. “This model has been successful for us on numerous buildouts, and we are thankful for support from the village for this project.”

She said the technology is scalable, and will be able to handle future demands as internet uses evolve.....

Miron hosts "Build Like a Girl" event, hoping to attract girls to construction jobs

MENASHA -- Miron Construction continues to expose young women to careers in the construction industry. The Neenah-based company held its annual “Build Like a Girl” event Wednesday.

From crane operators to carpenters to masonry work, the 7th to 10th grade girls from Northeast Wisconsin are learning to “Build Like a Girl.”

“I started with the masonry. It’s cool. That’s a job I would think about. It’s very unique,” says 7th grader Amari Volp.

Tenth grader Marlie Bowleg adds, “I really like the artsy aspect of it, like planning the buildings and designing it, so I thought that was cool.”...

Valley Packaging Industries plans summer camp for teens with disabilities who want to work in manufacturing

APPLETON - Valley Packaging Industries is partnering with Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs (NBT) to introduce a summer camp that will help train individuals with disabilities to work in the manufacturing field.

The NBT Inclusion Camp, presented and funded by Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation and Nestle USA, will last from July 25 to Aug. 19 at Valley Packaging in Appleton.

It is a four-week program that allows participants to tour local manufacturing facilities, and work through soft skill training and job readiness activities. Attendants will also participate in a paid work experience at Valley Packaging in a variety of production lines, where they will get the opportunity to learn "hard" manufacturing skills...

Tiny House Village to combat homelessness in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH — Having a place to live is one of our most basic human needs, but it's something more people in Oshkosh are finding themselves without.

"The Oshkosh Area School District averages anywhere from about 170 to over 200 identified homeless kids each year," said Julie Dumke, Oshkosh Kids Foundation executive director. “They’re going from couch, to couch, to couch, their families are split between relatives and they just don’t have stable housing.”
