Stretching the limits: Sheboygan inventors make plastic recycling more accessible
INSIGHT ON BUSINESS

Jim Theodoroff says he’s “always been into garbage” — going back to a childhood fascination with watching his neighborhood garbage collectors at work. In 2014, he became a garbage man himself when he established PolyWrap Recycling, Inc. It started as a Sheboygan-based brokerage service for companies looking to divert low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic materials like stretch film, bubble wrap and banding from the waste stream. But today Theodoroff and his business partner Jeff Haen are focused on supporting recycling from a different angle: as manufacturers of the RACK’n Pak Recycle Bagging System and Vent Press Bags...

Craig Culver shares his business know-how with next generation
THE BUSINESS NEWS

NORTHEAST WISCONSIN - In 1984, Craig and Lea Culver, along with Craig’s parents George and Ruth, opened the very first Culver’s in Sauk City in a former A&W restaurant his parents had previously owned and operated.

“It cost us a lot of money that first year and we almost failed, but we didn’t quit,” Craig said. “If entrepreneurs get knocked down, they always get back up because they believe so strongly in their goals. It’s more than running a business – it’s having a passion.”

Today, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone, especially in Wisconsin, who hasn’t heard of Culver’s...
Just dropping buy -- Algoma Candle Company: Candles are made in basement of family home
THE BUSINESS NEWS

ALGOMA - What began as a hobby has turned into a full-time business for a Kewaunee County family – and oh, what a “smelly” business it is.

In my first segment of “Just dropping by,” I visited the shores of Lake Michigan in the small City of Algoma – which has a population of about 3,000.

Algoma Candle Company co-owner Matthew Fay – who runs the business along with his wife Jacquelyn (with a little help from their 10 kids) – was more than willing to let me visit his operation, which is located in the basement of his house...

Caffeinated cheers to 30 years: Door County Coffee celebrates three decades with a rebrand
THE BUSINESS NEWS

CARLSVILLE - Located just more than halfway up Wisconsin’s Peninsula, directly off of WI-42, sits Door County Coffee (DCC), a cafe and retail shop that satiates all its customers' caffeinated needs.

This year, DCC is celebrating its 30th anniversary, one owner Vicki Wilson said she could never believe “in my wildest dreams.”
“When you start a business, you don’t really think, ‘what’s it going to be like in 30 years?’” she said.

And, with the milestone came a new look at DCC, one Wilson said is “revolutionary...”

Making room for more sweets, treats and community: Tamara's the Cake Guru expands its Oshkosh location
THE BUSINESS NEWS

OSHKOSH - For Tamara Mugerauer, expanding her Oshkosh bakery location goes beyond being able to offer even more goodies and sweets – it’s about the community.

“You can go to Kwik Trip and get bakery (items), you can go to Walmart and get bakery (items), you can get bakery (items) anywhere,” she said. “But the small-town, hometown bakery – to me – is the heart of our community, to be completely honest. We’re part of celebrations – that’s what I love most about my job.”

Mugerauer – who started baking nearly 20 years ago – is the owner of Tamara’s the Cake Guru, which has locations in Appleton (1859 N. Casaloma Drive) and Oshkosh (2271 Westowne Ave.)...
Tamara Mugerauer is the owner of Tamara’s the Cake Guru, which has a location in Appleton and a recently expanded location in Oshkosh. See The Business News story above.
