Rock the Block set to revitalize Kaukauna neighborhood
GREATER FOX CITIES AREA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

KAUKAUNA – The Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity, a leader in affordable housing solutions, is kicking off its first 2022 Rock the Block event in Kaukauna. The kickoff event will take place at Riverside Park in Kaukauna, located at 1001 Riverside Drive (map) at 2 p.m. Rock the Block will run from Thursday, May 12 – Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Riverside Park is one of the areas that will be getting revitalized as part of the Rock the Block three-day initiative. Rock the Block programs improve the lives of families in low-income housing by repairing deteriorating homes and community spaces...

Green Bay awarded $5 million grant for Shipyard project

GREEN BAY -- The city of Green Bay is set to receive a major boost for its Shipyard plans, on the western edge of the Fox River.

The National Park Service has preliminarily awarded the city a $5 million for the second phase of the project.

Construction is expected to start next month on the first phase of the project, which sits just north of the Mason Street Bridge.

The work comes almost seven years, and a slew of project changes, after the city first pitched the idea of transforming the site now known as the Shipyard...

Fiber optic internet on its way to Hobart

HOBART – Village residents could soon have access to internet speeds of between 300 megabytes per second to 2 gigabits per second, after a years-long project, which is about to get underway from TDS Fiber, is completed in the Village of Hobart.

Crews from TDS are set to begin work in the area of Hillcrest Drive, Forest Road, Centennial Center Boulevard and Oakview Drive this month, putting conduit in the ground for 127 miles of fiber optic lines, which will be capable of providing super fast internet connections for 80-90% of the village..

APPLETON – Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones brought a rush of smiles to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley Appleton building Tuesday, when he personally handed out brand new Adidas shoes to a roomful of excited children.

The shoes were a part of Jones' Yards for Shoes campaign, which first launched during the 2020-21 NFL playoff season. Yards for Shoes, which comes as a partnership between Jones' family's nonprofit A&A All the Way and Cousins Subs, donates a pair of shoes to a child for every rushing yard that Jones gains...

As Lawrence University celebrates its 175th anniversary, its ties to Appleton's past, present remain strong

APPLETON - Before Appleton became a city and Wisconsin was even a state, there was the Lawrence Institute.

In January 1847, the private college that would become today’s Lawrence University was granted a charter, marking the official start of the school. It was named after Boston merchant Amos A. Lawrence, who donated $10,000 to help fund it.

It wasn’t until 1853 that Appleton incorporated as a village and then as a city in 1857. The city got its name from Samuel Appleton, who donated $10,000 to the Lawrence library....

On Friday, May 6, College of Menominee Nation (CMN) President Christopher Caldwell, Tribal Resilience Liaison Sara Smith, and Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) Director Thomas Kenote, Jr., visited the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment to attend a meeting regarding climate change initiatives in the midwest. 

President Caldwell and Smith participated in this roundtable with United States Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, Minnesota (MN) Senator Tina Smith, MN Representative Betty McCollum, and MN Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flannagan. Other tribal representatives of the MW CASC (Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center) were present, including GLIFWC (The Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission) and the University of Minnesota....

High school students' ideas and skills shine bright at WPS Solar Olympics

GREEN BAY -- Area high school students put their knowledge and innovation skills to the test for Wisconsin Public Service’s Solar Olympics Wednesday.

Around 100 northeast and north central Wisconsin high school students used their science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) skills to create machines and plans that incorporate solar energy.
