Statewide COVID-19 business impact survey measuring for 2nd time

The second observation period of a statewide survey, measuring the
economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Wisconsin businesses, is underway. The survey is open – for both past participants and new participants – until May 14.

The survey is a partnership between the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), the state’s nine regional economic development organizations, including New North, and the UW Oshkosh Center for Customized Research & Services (CCRS) to collect data on the level of economic hardship being experienced by Wisconsin business due to the pandemic.

Sheboygan small businesses offered emergency fund

Small businesses operating within the City of Sheboygan are being offered emergency assistance to help weather the COVID-19 crisis. The project is an economic development activity that’s been funded with the City’s Community Development Block Grant-CV funding and targets businesses with 5 or fewer employees. The fund is available only during the COVID-19 pandemic for businesses ordered to close by the State, and applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

1,000-acre solar farm planned for town of Holland, pending regulator approval

A solar panel farm roughly twice the size of the Whistling Straits golf course is planned for the town of Holland near the Onion River.

New York-based Ranger Power will submit a proposal to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin for the 1,000- to 1,200-acre and 150-megawatt project by the end of the second quarter, company representatives say, and they anticipate the review process will take about a year.

Green Bay, Brillion receive Brownfields funds for cleanup projects

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced Green Bay and Brillion are two of three areas in Wisconsin to receive funds through the Brownfields program.

According to the EPA, Green Bay will receive $800,000 and Brillion will receive $500,000 in order to assess and clean up contaminated properties.

The funds are a part of $287 million in Brownfield grants given directly to communities and nonprofits for cleanup and redevelopment, job creation and economic development.

State 2019 visitor spending increases 2.6%; Brown County leads New North
Insight On Business
Wisconsin saw 113.2 million visits in 2019, with those travelers spending a total of $13.7 billion in the state, an increase of 2.6 percent over 2018.

Travel Wisconsin found visitor spending directly supports nearly 2,700 jobs. In addition, visitors generated $1.6 billion in state and local taxes, which is equivalent to $687 in tax savings for every household in Wisconsin.
