How Wisconsin Ukrainians Inc. has inspired an entire state to help get critical supplies to war-torn Ukraine, one box at a time
OSHKOSH NORTHWESTERN

During those first weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine, Jonathan Pylypiv found himself dogged by a sense of guilt over not being able to do enough when, at the same time, he was doing so much.

Neither was conducive to sleep. He was sometimes up for two days straight, would sleep for a few hours and then repeat the pattern all over again.

The Wisconsin Ukrainians Inc. Facebook page he started in 2014 as a place for the 8,000 to 10,000 Ukrainians living in the state to feel solidarity, celebrate the culture and share relevant information had quickly turned into a valuable tool to galvanize efforts for humanitarian aid for Ukraine...

3 school districts partner with Bellin College to roll out healthcare academy
WLUK

LUXEMBURG-CASCO - Three area school districts are collaborating with Bellin College to roll out a new program, which would allow students to earn up to 42 college credits while still in high school.

It's called the Bellin College Healthcare Academy.

Luxemburg-Casco junior Melanie Schleis wants to be a registered nurse.

“My dad has MS so I’ve kind of been surrounded with that my whole life. And my mom is a dietician so it’s always been a big part of my life and just really got me interested in it," Schleis said.

By taking part in the partnership program, she'll be one step closer to achieving that goal, even before she graduates high school.

“The goal of this is to shorten the amount of time they’re in college, reduce the amount of cost for the student, because the cost per credit is reduced, and so if everything works out perfectly, they could be out in two years after they graduate. So they’re already in the workforce at age 20 to 21 and making money in the area that they want to be in," Luxemburg-Casco School District director of learning services Michael Snowberry said...

11 years after arriving in Green Bay, restaurant owner becomes U.S. citizen
WFRV

GREEN BAY - It is a real-life story of the American dream.

“Our curry is so very, very popular,” said Narin Phanthavasunt. The owner of Narin’s Thai Kitchen was getting ready for the busy lunch crowd when Local 5 caught up with her on Thursday.

Phanthavasunt says everything is made to order.

Today is a little different, however. On Wednesday, April 27, Phanthavasunt officially became a U.S. citizen.

“I’m so proud to be American,” she said.

She opened her restaurant, 1981 E. Mason St., in 2019 a few months before the pandemic began. Despite that, it never stopped her spirit.

She was a nurse in her native Thailand. She met her husband who was there on a business trip...
