Schreiber Foods propels women's leadership forward in northeast Wisconsin

GREEN BAY – Schreiber Foods made a very generous gift to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Institute for Women’s Leadership.

The gift establishes an endowment to provide long-term sustainability for the Institute, now renamed the Schreiber Foods Institute for Women’s Leadership at UW-Green Bay.

In addition, the program is working to become the go-to resource in northeast Wisconsin, supporting women and their leadership journeys.

DE PERE — Wisconsin produces more paper than any state in the nation, and the Fox River Valley has been the center of production since the mid-1800s.

The construction of the locks system beginning in 1849 made it possible to ship goods along the river, and a number of flour mills were constructed.

The process of making paper out of wood pulp was first developed in England and soon made its way to the U.S.

With the massive forests of Wisconsin, making paper soon became the mainstay of Fox River milling.

Robots, drones to help clean Lake Michigan beaches
INSIGHT ON BUSINESS

Remote controlled robots and waterborne drones are coming to Northeast Wisconsin beaches and waterways this year to clean up trash and collect data.

Meijer, a retailer headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with stores in Wisconsin, donated $1.5 million to expand a partnership with the Council of the Great Lakes Region that began last year.

The council has collaborated with higher education programs including the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh to use remote-controlled robots and waterborne drones to pick up trash on beaches and in waterways.

Randy Zeimet named president of Triangle Manufacturing
INSIGHT ON BUSINESS

Triangle Manufacturing Company, an Oshkosh-based industrial bearings and metal components manufacturer, has promoted Randy Zeimet to president.

An engineer, Zeimet joined the company in 2008 as director of production design, later serving as director of engineering and vice president of engineering.

During his time with Triangle, Zeimet managed the engineering and design of production parts, tooling and manufacturing systems, with an eye on automation and cost optimization. His experience also includes initiatives to improve safety in manufacturing operations and quality assurance.

St. Norbert College Student Wins Top Paper Award at National Conference
WIS BUSINESS 

De Pere : St. Norbert College senior Crystal Schuster took home the top paper award at the Central States Communication Association (CSCA) conference in St. Louis, Mo. The conference was held March 30 through April 1.

Schuster, a double major in psychology and communication and media studies, with a minor in Spanish, presented “Meet the Family: A Qualitative Investigation of Introducing Romantic Partners to Family Members.”

She explored the important factors to consider when introducing a new romantic partner to one’s family, the implications for the relationships with family members and romantic partners after the introduction, how culture can impact this process and what advice adult children had regarding introducing a new partner to their family.

Green Bay — The Brown County STEM Innovation Center on the UW-Green Bay campus will host the second annual STEM Family Day. This free event will be on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join us for high-energy, hands-on fun for the entire family, including robotics, rockets, arcade games, and so much more. Ice Clouds, Taqueria Maldonado’s, and Minzo’s Kitchen will be available on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

BLS data: Wisconsin statewide unemployment rate hits new record low of 2.5% in March; State adds 900 jobs for month
WISCONSIN DEPT. OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today released the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) preliminary employment estimates for the month of March 2023, which showed Wisconsin's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to a record low of 2.5%. 

The total number of unemployed people dropped 6,400 over the month of March and 8,600 over the year to a new record low of 76,600. In addition, total seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs increased 900 over the month of March and 41,400 year-over-year to hit a new record high of 2,997,900. The total jobs number puts the state 3,900 jobs above the pre-COVID-19 peak in January 2020.

Packers donate over 400 trees to Brown County communities as part of green initiative

BROWN COUNTY – The Green Bay Packers greeted Brown County communities on Thursday as part of the team’s annual ‘First Down for Trees’ program.

For every first down the Green Bay Packers earned in the 2022-23 season, a tree would be donated to one of 16 participating Brown County communities.

This year, the program reportedly donated 403 trees provided by Meacham Nursery and Leaves Inspired, two local tree nurseries....
