Small businesses thrive in Door County, study says
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

DOOR COUNTY - If you own a small business on the Peninsula, you're in a good place in Wisconsin, a national study says.

The study by New York-based financial technology and advice company SmartAsset ranked Door County as the third-best of the state's 72 counties to own a small business in 2022, based on the number of small businesses operating in each county, how much income they generate and what they pay in taxes. Nationally, the county came in at No. 1,172, one of nine in Wisconsin to rank in the top 2,000...

Culver's founder inspires young Lakeland entrepreneurs
LAKELAND UNIVERSITY BLOG

For the record, Craig Culver’s favorite frozen custard at Culver’s Restaurant is vanilla, but he’s also partial to the most popular flavor, caramel pecan.

Culver, whose family founded the popular Culver’s Restaurant franchise, came to Lakeland Tuesday to share his entrepreneurial journey. The 125-plus students who attended got plenty of advice on how to start a successful business, along with a scoop of the famous vanilla frozen custard.

His visit came thanks to the Entrepreneurial Management course taught by Stephanie Hoskins, Lakeland’s Herbert Kohler & Frank Jacobson Chair of Business & Entrepreneurship. A student in the class, Kaelyn Brahm, reached out to Culver as part of an assignment and secured his appearance.

Appleton entrepreneur creates CoyAmore, a dating app for the introverted community
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

As dating apps continue to explode in popularity, a new company is entering the fray. And it all started with a discussion that Jon Pethke of Appleton had with friends.

“I was sitting in my office and we were talking about dating, and the conversation turned to dating apps,” Pethke said. “I said that I wished that apps were made for people like me who consider themselves introverts, and one of my friends said, ‘Why don’t you make it?’”

Although most people would just shrug their shoulders at an off-the-cuff remark like this, Pethke was immediately sold on the idea. Within a month, he formed Introwoo, LLC, and while continuing to work full time, started posting ideas on a whiteboard.

Looking for a hidden gem in Appleton? Check out the Moon Water Cafe
WFRV CHANNEL 5

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – If you live in Appleton, you may have passed by it on your way to College Avenue, but have you ever thought to stop into the Moon Water Cafe?

In business for three and a half years, owner Shannon Boegh opened the café in hopes of providing a quaint space for people to relax and catch up with old friends over a cup of coffee.

She says, “One thing that was very important to me when I started this business was I was very quiet about it. I didn’t want to make a lot of noise like ‘Come and see this new café.’ I wanted people to come, enjoy it, and I wanted it grow organically, and that has happened. People are spreading the news just friend to friend.”
