Finalists in Gov’s Biz Plan Contest offer innovation in health, environment, more
WISCONSIN TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL    

Twenty-six entries representing sectors such as health care, cleantech, education, software and innovations in products or services are competing in the finalist round of the 19th annual Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest.

The contestants have emerged after two rounds of judging in the contest organized through the Wisconsin Technology Council and its sponsors and volunteers.

“Young companies such as those advancing in this year’s contest are examples of innovation that cuts across industry sector lines in Wisconsin,” said Greg Lynch, chairman of the Tech Council and a partner at the law firm of Michael Best....

Bill to improve Wisconsin’s investor tax credit law signed by Gov. Evers following legislative action
WISCONSIN TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL    
  
Gov. Tony Evers has signed into law Assembly Bill 759, which will make it easier for young companies to stay put in Wisconsin as they grow and add jobs while expanding beyond its borders. It took effect Sunday, April 10.

The effort to pass the bill was led by the Wisconsin Technology Council. It was previously passed unanimously in the 99-seat Assembly and the 33-seat Senate.

The bill amends Wisconsin’s “Qualified New Business Venture” law, which took effect in January 2005 and remains a leading bipartisan example of how to carefully lever state tax credits for angel and venture capital investors who risk money in startups and emerging companies.”...

DIY Hero finalist from Seymour hopes to cash in on her crocheting side gig
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE 

Amanda Van Den Elzen of Seymour hopes to be the DIY Hero. The self-described hippie is accomplished at the art of crocheting and is known around the area for her crocheted tops featured at festivals.

The top prize in the contest, sponsored by Barnwood Living, is $25,000 and a two-page feature in Make: magazine.

“I founded Almightyemu Crafts in 2016 when I started selling crocheted hats and scarves via word of mouth and Facebook,” she said. “I expanded into local craft sales in the following years, hosting booths at places like the Greenville Lioness Craft Show and Rock the Dock Green Bay.”...

De Pere manufacturing startup expands with WEDC help

DE PERE—A tax credit program from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is helping businesses to grow, including De Pere-based Quality Service & Machining (QSM).

QSM opened in June 2020 with three employees, one manual lathe and four CNC (computer numerical control) machines, to shape industrial component parts out of metal sheets or bars. Less than two years later — the company has more than 30 employees and 11 CNC machines and a new building in De Pere’s West Business Park....
