Ryan Prellwitz, owner of Vines & Rushes, grew up on his parents’ corn, soybean and strawberry farm near Rush Lake. Although he enjoyed the daily grind of a working farm, Prellwitz found himself drawn to computer technology and coding in high school.

“For almost 15 years, I worked in IT and even ran a small support business,” he says. “But in my late 20s I wanted to start a new business — something that would bring value to the family farm. I started researching what would be a viable option and my dad suggested grapes.”..

California biotech company partners with UW Oshkosh for human disease research

OSHKOSH -- A California-based biotech company is helping make UW-Oshkosh a destination for human disease researchers.

Fauna Bio has provided a $500,000 scholarship that increases UW-Oshkosh's capacity for biomedical collaborations to translate disease resistance strategies found in the animal kingdom into new treatments for human disease.

“This partnership will advance the work already being done at UWO. It’s an opportunity for our faculty to solidify their position as leaders in this field and to expand our educational opportunities for students,” said UWO Provost John Koker....

Fox Valley Technical College Foundation: Ready for next Innovation Accelerator for Veterans cohort
FOX VALLEY TECHNICAL COLLEGE 

Fox Valley Technical College Foundation has once again been awarded a state grant for a program that guides veterans who want to start their own businesses. Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs (WDVA) have announced that FVTC will receive almost $90,000 for another cohort in the Innovation Accelerator for Veterans.

The program provides entrepreneurial training and technical support, networking opportunities, one-on-one mentoring and startup/growth expenses for veteran-owned businesses, whether it’s to create a source of full-time employment or more of a side business...

GRAND CHUTE -- Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs are giving Fox Valley Technical College another $90,000 to help military veterans become entrepreneurs.

The Innovation Accelerator for Veterans helps vets who want to start their own business. It provides seed funding, one-on-one mentoring, and of course entrepreneurial training and technical support.

FVTC was the first college (or university) in Wisconsin to use the grant to provide small business training for military veterans. Jeff Alexander talks with Amy Pietsch, Venture Center director and program facilitator at FVTC, about the program and how and why veterans should apply....

BrightStar releases 2021 Annual Report - Todd Sobotka named as executive director

BrightStar Wisconsin has released its 2021 Annual Report which highlights the appointment of Todd Sobotka as its first Executive Director, a newly created position for the foundation.
