gener8tor announces social impact cohort for spring 2021

Startup accelerator gener8tor has announced the latest cohort for its gBETA Social Impact program, which will focus on startups advancing equity in education.

The Spring 2021 cohort includes five participating startups, who will participate in the free, seven-week accelerator designed to help them gain early customer traction on their product or idea, and provide a competitive edge while seeking future participation in full-time, equity-based accelerators or seed funding.

In the announcement, the accelerator added all participants will receive intensive and individualized coaching and access to gener8tor’s network of mentors, customers, corporate partners and investors over the seven week program, which is being sponsored by the American Family Institute for Corporate and Social Impact...

Google Venture vet tells startups to network, streamline pitch

A national investment expert told tech startup founders to build relationships, broaden networks and streamline business pitches.

The expert addressed the 2021 Wisconsin Tech Summit, put on by the Wisconsin Technology Council. The virtual event, which wrapped up yesterday, featured speakers from tech industries and speed dating-style meetings between startups and major companies.

Tracie Rotter, a former partner at Google Ventures, gave the opening keynote address. She addressed summit attendees about her work at Google Ventures and the way that simplifying pitches can improve a business portfolio.

“Frame it in a story — this is a day in the life of a user,” she said, adding that making it easy for potential major corporate partners to understand a product can align possible goals with investors...

Green Bay begins Pop-Up Shop Program to give small businesses opportunities to open storefronts

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) — “We already see things coming back in the downtown, we believe that the timing of this is perfect,” Jeff Mirkes, Executive Director of Downtown Green Bay Inc. and Olde Main Street Inc. told Local 5 Friday while discussing his organizations’ latest project.

“Finding an easy, low cost way for area entrepreneurs who might be operating a business out of their basement or their garage, who may want to give running a business in the middle of an urban center an opportunity,” he said.

It’s called the Pop-Up Shop Program.

'I was determined to make it work': Fox Crossing wine bar Xe54 regroups to outlast pandemic

When Pamela Barnes was looking for a location for a wine bar, she thought that the village of Fox Crossing in northeastern Wisconsin was ideal.

“I saw a need in my community. There was a strong emergence of corporate offices within the area with prominent industries nearby,” Barnes said. “It was a niche opportunity — to create a space where people would have a place to meet after work, and a small meeting room for gatherings.”

After much research and assistance from the Fox Cities SCORE chapter and Fox Valley Technical College Venture Center, she opened “Xe54, an Offbeat American Wine Bar” in late fall 2018

De Pere students learn about agriculture through hydroponics

DE PERE, Wis. (WBAY) - It’s National Agriculture Week. Students at De Pere High School are learning about new equipment and growing food.

One of the pieces of equipment is a vertical tower for hydroponics. It allows you to grow plants without soil. Liquid nutrients are added to the water supply.

Nutrients at the bottom and a light source in the center help the plants grow.

As photography industry evolves, one Appleton couple grows their business to keep up with changes

For one Appleton couple they’ve had to adapt and grow their clientele.

The couple met back in 1997 when Heidi De La Teja met her husband Gerry.
