Appleton candymaker from Ghana to pitch business idea on 'Shark Tank'-type reality show

APPLETON – A local business whose goal is to bring Ghanaian cuisine to the Fox Cities will receive statewide exposure this weekend.

Gold Coast Candy, an Appleton-based candymaker that specializes in Ghana-style brittle, will be featured on the television program "Project Pitch It" this weekend. "Project Pitch It," presented by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, gives Wisconsin entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their business idea in a "Shark Tank"-type setting.

The show's sixth season premieres Saturday on Milwaukee TV station WISN, but it’ll air on four other Wisconsin stations, including WBAY, on later dates...

The countdown is under way for middle- and high-school students to enter Wisconsin Youth Entrepreneurs in Science, a statewide youth business plan contest modeled after the successful Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest. It is open for online entries from Wisconsin middle- and high-school students through 5 p.m. April 13, 2022.

Public, private and home-schooled students across Wisconsin are eligible to turn their science- and tech-related ideas into business plans and compete for cash and prizes. The contest begins with a 250-word summary submitted through WisconsinYES.com

Titletown Brewing Company encouraging women to join the brewing industry

GREEN BAY — Titletown Brewing Company is celebrating women in brewing by honoring a historic Green Bay brewery owner. The brewery recently added Octavia White IPA to its taproom, named after Octavia Van Dyke who owned Van Dyke brewing company in the late 1800s.

Wisconsin early-stage firms attracted record investment in 2021

Early-stage companies in Wisconsin raised $852.4 million from angel and venture capitalists in 2021, smashing a record and continuing an upward trend.

That was the top-line finding of an annual study done by the Wisconsin Technology Council and detailed last week at an event at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Innovation Accelerator in Wauwatosa.

22-year-old owner of Highland Lodge has grand plans for Cleveland pub and restaurant

CLEVELAND – While most 22-year-olds are still trying to figure out what to do with their lives, Elle Kaderabek is preparing for the official grand opening of a pub and restaurant she owns and operates.

After opening to the public on January 6, Highland Lodge and Pub, 1278 Alpine Court in Cleveland, will be holding its “Grand Opening Bash” Thursday, March 24 through Sunday, March 27. The four-day celebration will feature new and unique menu items, drink specials and a beer tapping ceremony on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m.

GREEN BAY – Armed with her grandmother’s recipes as inspiration, Amanda Lor opened TaisTais Kitchen in Green Bay to not only honor her Hmong heritage, but to share that proud heritage with the community through home-cooked, traditional Hmong dishes.

“My dream is to share my grandma’s cooking with the community so that everyone can have a taste of the culture and experience the different flavors with each bite,” Lor said, “Tais Tais (pronounced Thigh Thigh) means ‘grandmother’ in Hmong, and like the good old saying, ‘Grandma knows best.’”

The expression not only serves as inspiration for the name of the restaurant, but for the food as well
