GREEN BAY, WI: Applications are now open for a third round of gener8tor Upskilling, a 10-week program focused on skills development centered on IT administration.

Led by New North, Inc., the program is offered through a continuing partnership with Microsoft, gener8tor, the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation and Thrivent. The free accelerator program is designed for individuals ready to learn digital skills to apply for in-demand jobs in the region.

Applications to participate in the training are available here. The deadline is March 3.

Expansion and Business Development in the New North
Manitowoc receives state grant for brewery expansion

MANITOWOC  -- The City of Manitowoc is receiving $250,000 in state money to help turn an old building into an expanded brewery and restaurant.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says the century-old industrial building at 1015 Buffalo Street is next to the RiverPoint District. The city is working to redevelop the 20-acre former railyard into a mix of residential, commercial and entertainment properties. It is located on a peninsula in the Manitowoc River.

The adjacent building will become the new location for PetSkull Brewing's expansion. The $1.5 million project is expected to be completed by July.

Timber Rattlers sign on to remain Milwaukee Brewers affiliate for the next 10 years

GRAND CHUTE – It has been an offseason of major changes for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, but one thing will remain the same.

The Timber Rattlers confirmed Friday that they have signed Major League Baseball’s Player Development License, accepting the invitation to remain an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. The new agreement is a 10-year deal.

The Timber Rattlers, who had been Milwaukee’s Low-A affiliate since the 2009 season, will be a High-A affiliate going forward....

Brian Smith was born with cerebral palsy. He is confined to a wheelchair. He cannot communicate without the aid of a speaking application. That alone has made life difficult, and the struggles have sometimes been exacerbated by those who misplace the basic tenants of empathy and compassion when they meet.

Gov. Tony Evers proposes a new $100 million venture capital fund, $200 million to assist small businesses

MADISON WI: Gov. Tony Evers will propose more than $329 million in new economic development initiatives as part of his state budget proposal Tuesday, including a new $100 million venture capital fund to help startups and $200 million to assist small businesses hurt by the coronavirus pandemic.

Evers released details of his economic development plan Sunday. He will submit his two-year state budget proposal to the Republican-controlled Legislature on Tuesday, which will then spend months reworking it before passing its own version this summer....
