GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Green Bay has made a list of 10 best cities for high salaries and low cost of living in the Midwest. The list was published by the Ascent, a personal finance website by The Motley Fool.

According to a news release, the Ascent analyzed cost-of-living data from The Council for Community and Economic Research’s most recent Cost of Living Index — which measures the costs of groceries, housing, utilities, transportation, healthcare, and miscellaneous goods and services — along with expenditure data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and income figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Green Bay ranked number 10 on the list, with an estimated income-to-expense ratio of 1.159. According to the Ascent, Green Bay's cost of living estimate is $56,102 and its median household income is $65,026...

Kewaunee County housing study confirms need for development and growth
WBAY
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - For the first time Kewaunee County conducted a housing study that has revealed the demand for single-family homes and other development.

The county said the housing study, in partnership with Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission, is a way to confirm what many people saw as a setback in the area: the need for housing, in particular single-family homes, senior living units, and rentals.

“The more development, that means that’s more property tax base, which therefore reduces peoples’ property taxes because we have more people paying in,” said Scott Feldt, Kewaunee County Administrator.

Right now, nearly 90% of housing units in the county are occupied and two-thirds of the people living in them are 50 years or older. The study creates an open conversation or options moving forward

Celebrating Black History Month: NWTC academic coach talks overcoming adversity
NBC 26
GREEN BAY (NBC26) — "Adversity doesn't build character. It reveals it," said Wayne Walker, Assessment and Academic Coaching Manager at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. "So it's not what happens to you, but how you react to what's happening to you, and I would share that with anyone."

Walker shares that message almost every day. The Antigua native spent the first half of his life in the Carribbean, where almost everyone looked just like him.

"I never grew up really having to worry about race and all these different things that people who grew up in America had to worry about," he said.

Walker came to the U.S. to pursue a career in basketball; he played at UW Green Bay and professionally. Later, he started coaching young players...
