Schneider aims to recruit more women drivers, help with shortages
WBAY

ASHWAUBENON -- Experts say women make up less than 10% of truck drivers despite representing about 50% of the American workforce.

Schneider is trying to change that by putting more women in the driver’s seat of a big rig.

This effort to recruit more women truckers has a practical appeal for Schneider; it could help with the driver shortage that’s part of the ongoing supply-chain problems largely worsened by the pandemic.

“There is a misconception that your personal safety is at risk, and my biggest personal safety is the distracted four-wheel drivers around me and I am held to a higher standard,” Kellylynn McLaughlin, a driver trainer for Schneider, said....

Midwest Paper Group sold to Mexico-based company
WBAY

COMBINED LOCKS -- A paper mill in Combined Locks that was once nearly shuttered has a new owner.

McKinley Paper Company, a U.S. subsidiary of Mexico-based Bio PAPPEL, bought Midwest Paper Group for an undisclosed amount of money according to a news release Thursday.

More than 300 people work in the mill right now.

This ownership change is one of many the mill has seen over the past five years since it was known as Appleton Coated and abruptly shut down in 2017. That led to a very public court fight.

According to its website, Midwest Paper Company has a production capacity of 500,000 tons a year. This will help Bio PAPPEL-McKinley increase its U.S. container board production in a big way...

Embrace winter, and smile about it: Sturgeon Spectacular is almost here, here's what to expect at this fish-themed party
FOND DU LAC REPORTER

FOND DU LAC- Sturgeon Spectacular is right around the corner.

Each year, the unique event held near Lake Winnebago is filled with tons of wintertime events and happy Midwesterners. This year, the event runs Feb. 11 to 13, coinciding as usual with the sturgeon spearing season.

When you first see a sturgeon, you'd probably think "this thing must have been around during the prehistoric times," and that's actually somewhat correct. There are 27 species in the sturgeon family, and the earliest fossils of sturgeon date back about 200 million years. They were even declared a royal fish by King Edward II in England back in 1324...

WBAY

DE PERE -- The Grammy’s in Los Angeles were originally scheduled for January 31, 2022 but due to the omicron surge, they have been rescheduled to April 3. While not all musicians strive to hold their own golden gramophone, many in Wisconsin are being inspired by the success of those who’ve rocked before them. St. Norbert College has been known for churning out some of the best musicians in our region. Its alums go on to get graduate degrees in music and perform all over the country.

The St. Norbert music program has had 100% employment placement for their graduating students who pursue music education helping to teach the next generation of musicians in the state. It’s an impressive statistic they’ve kept up for over a decade...
