Nearly $6 million in grants awarded to 225 nonprofits in Northeast Wisconsin (thanks to U.S. Venture, J.J. Keller Foundation, Oshkosh Corporation, ThedaCare and Thrivent Foundation)

More than 200 nonprofits and organizations have received a record-breaking amount of grants worth nearly $6 million to help end poverty in northeast Wisconsin.

According to U.S. Venture Open, which announced the grants Monday, the programs which received the funds are located in Green Bay, the Fox Valley area and Oshkosh.

A new event for veterans is being held at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College on Tuesday. "I would say we are servicing around 500 student veterans and dependents,” said Veterans Education Benefits Specialist Andrea Fox.

New York Times investigative reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones. Her deeply personal stories on the black experience have earned her national accolades, including a Peabody, Polk and National Magazine Award.

Toward One Wisconsin plenary speaker Nikole Hannah-Jones will describe her work with the New York Times “1619 Project,” which challenges Americans to reframe U.S. history by marking the year when the first enslaved Africans arrived on Virginia soil as our nation's foundational date. Lesson plans for schools across the country is a key component of the project. Click on the video to hear her story.
