More to offer: New North Summit offers mix of virtual, live programming
Insight On Business
Like so many other organizations planning to hold events, New North, Inc. had to reimagine and reschedule its annual New North Summit, which is typically held in person each December.

The 2021 summit, which is one of the largest economic development gatherings in the region, will be held over four days, with three days of virtual programming and one in-person gathering on June 10 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

“We know our annual summit is an event that our stakeholders look forward to for enriched networking and regional updates,” says Barb LaMue, president and CEO of New North, Inc. “While we are thankful for the progress that is being made to beat COVID-19, holding a large gathering on the previous date of March 11 is not possible. We instead have reshaped the event into....

Breaking the mold: Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry CEO Sachin Shivaram follows an unconventional path

Insight On Business
The story of Sachin Shivaram, a would-be lawyer with an Ivy League education who abandoned his earlier aspirations to pursue a career in the steel industry, should cast aside any doubts about the power of the written word to move and inspire.

Shivaram, who grew up in the Milwaukee suburb of Glendale and completed his higher education at Harvard, Yale and the University of Cambridge, was in law school and on track to become a lawyer when he read Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged,” a book that changed the trajectory of his life.

The dystopian novel tells the story of two lovers, railroad executive Dagny Taggart and steel tycoon Hank Reardon. While the book has a reputation as a darling among conservative and libertarian thinkers, Shivaram says it was the story that drew him in. Abruptly, he decided he didn’t want to be a lawyer and wrote to a steel company saying....

You can sign up for the challenge here.

The challenge, coinciding with the start of Black History Month, is a way to carry on the conversation of racism that still happens all around us, every day.

“We wanted to present our communities with the chance to engage with issues around race equity. At its heart it’s an email campaign with a weekly challenge,” said Katie McMullen, United Way Of Wisconsin, Member Services Manager.

Whether it’s to read, watch, or engage, the idea is to maybe get outside your comfort zone, learn something new, while building up a....

Business closures and pandemic preparedness measures put a damper on much of the De Pere's business community, but as a whole, the city is emerging,...
