Vital signs: 13th annual NEWMA index takes the pulse of New North manufacturers

NORTHEAST WISCONSIN -- Last month at its quarterly membership meeting in Green Bay, the Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance unveiled the results of its annual Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Vitality Index Study — an ongoing partnership with the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Center for Customized Research and Services that aims to bring a regional perspective to manufacturing issues and trends.

NEWMA Executive Director Ann Franz says her biggest takeaways from the 13th edition of the study are that manufacturers are bullish for 2023, with 71% expecting increased sales for the upcoming year, 60% planning on hiring and 75% investing in plant modernization, as well as the fact that supply chain and workforce constraints are continuing to plague survey respondents...

FOND DU LAC — SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac recently won the Heartflow Quality Award for Excellence for its cardiac imaging technology, meaning the hospital is in the top 18% of global medical centers providing this care.

The technology creates a digital 3D model of a patient’s arteries. Dr. Marc Atzenhoefer said it can take photos of the heart so quickly, it catches the heart when it’s still.

This is a big step up from traditional stress tests, which Atzenhoefer said don’t always show the whole picture....

Green Bay asks for feedback as it formulates plan to be more energy efficient

GREEN BAY -- Green Bay has set goals in being more energy efficient and its asking for help in its efforts.

Residents and business owners are being asked to fill out a survey, which the city says takes about 10 minutes. City officials say it will guide them as they come up with an energy plan for the next five to ten years.

Green Bay has goals to be carbon neutral and rely solely on clean energy by the year 2050. The city council agreed to the goals as part of a resolution that passed unanimously in May of 2021....

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation recently launched the 1871 Society, a new fundraising push named in honor of the year the University began and focused on bringing critical scholarship resources to meet the needs of students.

The membership is a three-year commitment of $1,871 annually. The Foundation’s goal is to have 53 donors join the society in the first year. The Foundation will provide a first-year match of $1,871 for each of the 53—adding $100,000 to student scholarship funds....
