Home Maintenance is an important aspect of owning a home and most jobs around the house can be done inexpensively and quickly.
1. Main shutoff values - Water and fuel (oil or natural gas), know where they are and how to trun them off.
2. Emergency switch for the furance or burner. Know how to trun it off.
3. Hot Water heater thermostat and electrical breakers. Know how to trun it off.
4. Main electrical switch. Know how to trun it off.
5. Fuse box or cicuit breaker box. Know how to trun it off.
SUMMER MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST
Basement humidity should be kept under 60%. Use a dehumidifier to maintain a relative humidity below 60%
Clean and replace AC filter or ventilation system filters if needed.
Check bsmt floor drain to ensure the trap contains water; Water prevents sewer gases from entering the home.
Run water in plumbing fixtures like a spare bathroom sink to keep water in the trap.
Vacuum lint from the dryer connection duct.
Check windows for smoothing funtioning, lubricate if needed.
Garage door hardware, gargage door motor, chain, and other moving parts lubricate.
Check exterior wood siding and trim, clean, repair and refinish as needed.
Remove plants and roots that penetrate the brick or siding.
Examine the roof and chimney for signs of needed repair as well as the roof flashings at roof joints.
Driveway and walkway repair as needed.
